Subject: My Contribution towards Networking Essentials

Now I am about to say few words about the examination. I specially concentrate on the student like me, who were not really confident with them and doing the exam for the first time. So, I apologies for others if I am boring you or upsetting you.

My Study process (Networking Essentials)

I had attended MCSE course (3days contact time), Basically they went thru the the Microsoft's Networking essentials exam preparation book published by Microsoft Press.

Did exam preparation on Transcender which are bit expensive for me, the institute who conducted the course, were kind enough to give me a chance to use this software as many time as I like. I practised on this until I was able to cross 90%.

And also I had practiced with Microsofts PEP exam practice software, which you will be able to download from htttp://www.microsoft.com/Mcp/exam/stat/SP70-058.htm/

Few site I referred to are as fallows

1. This BrainDump heaven was the most important of the lot for me.

2. http://www.cramsession.com/ (Good notes are available.

3. http://shell.ihug.co.nz/~bulldogs/mcse/index.html/

4. http://www.neteng.com/osimodel.htm

NOTE: Do not take it for granted all the content in the above site are 100% correct. some may be wrong, better you check it up. This could happed because people like me contribute to this. I didn't get 100% marks.

Few Tips on the Examination Centre

Number of qeustions = 58

Total Marks = 1000

Passing Marks = 793(Don't get scared If you go thru book and brain dump you will get thru.

Time - 75 mns

Examination Software will more like be simular to the PEP test which I mentioned earlier. total time will be 90mns you can go thru the practice test which will make you make you feel free. Even though they say 15 mns really their is no time limit you can do it until you are comfortable(this doesn't count to your actual 75 mns ).

All 58 questions are multiple choice, some may say to pick the best choice, were us others may say choose all that are appropriate in which case the answer may be more than one. Sometimes you will see exihibit button, this is to bring up the graphic related to that question. You will also see a calculator button on right top corner which you can use it. You will also see a check box on left top corner, This lets you to mark the questions you would like to go thru it once again after answering all the question. eventhough it lets you to go forward and backword. this marking will help you to identify which is the question you would like to concentrate again.

The qustion what I remembered out of my exams.

Wordings may not be same. Answer may be very simple but, most of the question will be very confusion with the wording. Be extremly cautious in reading the question word by word( No matter how expert you are in reading - their will be a situation you brain understands( it may assume it's completed reading) ahead of you eye site, in which case you may come to conclusion what your brain thinks is what the question is asking for. For eg: if you misout a ward NOT in the question whole understanding will become wrong).

1. Share level & User level

2. What protocol records hop information stored in routers.

3. Which are the protocol are routable.

4. Question on UTP cat5 cable

5. ODI & NDIS

6. Reading of cable, T-connector, Terminator. what is wrong?

7. what supports in dial up connection? PPP, SLIP, Cslip (this is just question)

8. Two question which gave the answer to Protocol Analyser

7. Which can support 100 Mbps . actual questions were very long.

8. 2 Qeustions related to frame type and transceiver type. Just asking what is wrong?

9. Question related to multiplexer?

10. one on X.25 WAN connection?

11. 10BaseT -

12. 10base2 what cable

13. connector for 10 Base 2

14. Broad cast storm question.

15. I had 12 scanerio question.

- 2 on T1 connection with 3 sites.

- 2 on Naming scheme using netBIOS

- 2 on RAID level

- 2 on design structure of WAN which I had never seen during the study proccess.

Sorry I could't remember the question.

luckily I didn't get that Modem question. I couldn't believe the formula what   had seen in other sites

- 1 question opening windows size of TCP/IP : Which I feel gives the opposite   result of what is required. My explanation for this is it is something like water pipe,   from bigger pipe water comes to smaller pipe. If you increase size of bigger pipe   and reduce the size of smaller pipe. flow(traffic) on smaller pipeis going to larger rather than reducing. That's all I remember.   If I rember more I will update more.

WISH YOU ALL THE BEST OF (LUCK) YOUR EFFORTS.

I am sure you all can complete successfully. It is easy to complete the exam and furget about it. But never furget to give your feed back to this site. Think if you don't have this site what would have been your situation.
