Net Ess
70-058

Just passed with a score of 617 out of 552.  Not great, but I'll take it.....

I studied (reading, doing Transcenders, reviewing braindumps) for about two to three hours a night for three weeks.  It's tough to study when you get home from a job where you work all day on a Macintrash and you don't make a living as some form of a computer nerd.

Preparation:

Que Networking Essentials Guide

Exam Cram (not as good as Que)

Trancenders A-D

Braindumps:  PHa (10/15/98), and especially look at "Peter"  (Thanks Pete.)

There were a lot of easy connectivity devices and specifications (10BaseX, ATM).

Situational that threw me:

You have a Token Ring network with NT Server and 15 Win95 clients using TCP/IP.  The users are complaining about slow file transfer time on the network.  How do you resolve the situation?

a.  Add another MAU

b.  Divide the network with a hub

c.  Change the protocol to DLC

I picked A but I' don't think that's right.

There were alot of situations where networks had to connect to UNIX computers and mainframes, which I really didn't know much about except that DLC is used with UNIX.

I think the braindumps mentioned above helped me the best.  They not only make you think about the question, but you also become familiar with trying to guess at what they are really asking for in certain situations.

I read these books and reviewed the braindumps and went in fairly confident.  I also think alot of the people that put their braindumps here and say they got fabulous scores are lying.  I base this on looking up about 90 % of the questions and finding that about 30% of the answers provided are not correct.  So take your time and look up all of questions which you aren't sure of .

Have fun......
