EXAM 70-058 NETWORKING ESSENTIALS

Passed NetEss today (3.3.98) with a 948

I only used the MS NetEss SSK and the multitude of Braindumps found at this site. Luxuries such as the Transcender tests cost about the same as an exam in my country (due to the exchange rate), so I'll rather have a shot at the exam than pay for tests

Anyway, here's my dump:

I had a great start to the exam -Blue Screen of Death followed by four scenarios. Just marked them and continued (as with the next six questions). Question 11, you guessed it, another two scenarios. Marked them and continued.

The multiple-choice questions consisted of:

• NDIS and ODI
• Cable characteristics e.g. length, speed etc
• Cable problems e.g. terminators, grounding, shorts etc
• WAN speeds
• ATM, ISDN, RIP, X25, Frame relay
• Mesh topology
• IRQ problems
• Protocol and connection problems
• Which protocols to use where
• Which protocols are routable (It is easier to learn which are not)
• SLIP and PPP (Dynamic IP addressing and compression issue)
• User level and share level security (which supports what?) p460-464 of the MS Windows Resource Kit released by Microsoft!!
• Which connectivity device resides where in the OSI model?
• Which connectivity device to use where and when? (Connecting different protocols, segmentation, broadcast storms etc)
• Troubleshooting tools (Protocol analyzers, TDR etc)
• Client\Server characteristics

5 scenarios decided to pitch up during the exam, all in-groups of two:

• Implementing a NetBIOS naming scheme (2 Q's)
• Implementing a Fault Tolerant system (max 2 hrs. downtime) (2 Q's)
• The famous 3 cities T1 link scenarios (2 Q's)
• 200 or more machines and a mixed bunch of protocols (2 Q's)
• 120 machines using TCP/IP-decrease network utilization (2 Q's)

Before the exam:

Know your essentials - what works where and why? If it does not want to work, understand why not and what can be done to make it work and how fast?

Although the braindumps are indispensable when it comes to preparing for the exam, don't accept every answered question as correct. Read the question and try answering it for yourself. If your answer differs from the answer in the dump, rather look it

Take the intro and use the time to jot down all those ones and zeros running rampant through your brain - IRQ's, OSI layers together with their relevant protocols and connectivity devices, WAN speeds etc - everything you are likely to mix up du

Read every question very carefully!! Mark those you are unsure of and return later to sort them out. Don't lose track of time.

After the exam

The most ESSENTIAL thing to remember is to SMILE J
