This is my first posting to this site. Today I passed the networking essentials (70-058) exam under the new adaptive format. I scored a 896. 25 - 35 questions and you MUST make sure you are correct when you click the next button as you CANNOT go back and change your answers. Most of the questions were already posted on this fantastic web site. I would like to thank all those people who work very hard to maintain this site. 4 core tests down - 2 to go.

Note If you are doing well you will only get the minimum amount of questions

(25). If you are weak in a certain area Micrsoft will keep hitting you on it.

Like pouring salt in the wound.

Here are 2 questions which are from the adaptive format which I have not seen here yet. I know these answers are correct since I have experience with both and double checked them when I returned to work after the test.

1) They show you a picture of a client/PC Ethernet adapter card. You are told the following ports are in use:

1 parallel ports.

2 serial ports

You are asked to drag the correct IRQ and correct interrupt address into 2 boxes on a Ethernet 10Base2 network.

Choices:

IRQ 3 IRQ 5

300H 3F8H

Solution:

1 Parallel port (LPT1 - default IRQ7)

Serial port (COM1 - default IRQ4)

Serial port (COM2) - default IRQ3)

I choose IRQ 5 and 3F8H as the interrupt address. Since LPT2 is not used this is the only one which will not cause a conflict.

2)You are shown a diagram. You have to place the correct network hardware in the boxes label A, B,C in order to make the network communicate properly. The devices are: _____________ ___________ __________

Repeater | TCP/IP |-------|Router (B) |--------| TCP/IP | Bridge |_(166.6.7.3)___| | (165.3.4.0) |

Ethernet Hub | |  Router ______|______ |   Gateway |Repeater (A) |

|Bridge (C) |    | | _____|_____ _____|______ | Ethernet | | NWLink IPX | | (170.2.4.6) | | (165.4.6.9) |

This question was 2 seperate networks. Keep in mind there is no need to place an ethernet hub on a ethernet network. A gateway is for too expensive a solution for this network. Just know what each device does and how to use them and you will be fine.

Notes

About 10 questions on WinNT environment. (WINS, DNS, DHCP).

No questions on RAID fault tolerance.

No questions on IEEE 802.3 standards.

MS wants to see if you understand the principals. Transcender does a very good job of explaining things. That is the key to success.
