I took the Networking Essentials Exam today (10/22/98) and it was still the standard test. I took it at PPI which is a VUE Center. They must have not switched over yet. I scored a 862, 80% of the questions were on this brain dump site. You might want to schedule this at a PPI site and take the standard exam before the switch over. |
hello all my name is Davis Nguyen, i just passed the adaptive test, i have heard about the adaptive test but never see it b4. i was so nervous i was thought it like the driver written test, but it not it not that hard to take the test i got 655 oh well not that good but i passed!! i guess if you read the sybex book and go over the braindumps i can gragrantee you will pass with good score try all the braindumps in here and also go to www.cramsession.com click on MCSE and then click on Networking Essential, one more step to click on Resource i guess there is 58 questions over there...i grangrantee 100% will appearce on the test but not all! good luck all |
Hi, i took the new adaptive net essentials exam last week
and managed a pass at 666 ,my pass mark was 552 and i had 25 questions.I would say on
balance it was harder than the old format because of the way the questions were put, not
the actual content of what they wanted to know.I am taking the MCSE course via Pitman
Training in England and used the Microsoft Net Essentials book, two books by Ed Tittel et
al, out of Certification Insider Press,Exam Prep and Exam Cram both of which i would
recommend. Also took the four Transcender exams and went thru the Brain Dumps. I will
list the subjects i was questioned on; Frame errors,Naming methods,W.A.N.Transmission
types,Protocol Analyzers, Gateways,Connecting to Unix Computers,Security,Remote Connection
Protocols,N.D.I.S and O.D.I. I had no idea of any change of exam format and at first
thought i had been given the wrong exam. From what i have seen of other
"adaptives" comments, the new exam is narrower in focus but goes into things in
more depth.Unfortunately the focus can be completely different from one exam to the next
but if you cover the same points as in the old exam you will be okay. |
The adaptive Networking Essentials exam struck me as being very implementation-oriented. What seemed important was not so much the ability to define terms or identify objects, but to understand how physical media and protocols intermesh in real systems. The majority of my questions were situational - - "If you have this situation, you should do/use X." I had several questions where "exhibits," or diagrams, were used, and one was expected to arrange obects in a particular order. In two cases, this had to do with an ethernet network where a problem had been encountered. One was expected to show how to put together a 10base5 segment (right down to the transceiver) and to know how to ground it properly. One should not go into this exam without knowing all the protocols, WAN technologies, and media examined in the MS self-paced study guide. If I had to boil it down to one sentence, it would be this: if a protocol, transmitting medium, or technology was presented in a Microsoft approved Networking Essentials text, know the details of it. I would point out, however, that I did not see anything about media or technologies besides those that used copper and fiber optics. Nothing about radio, microwave, infrared, etc. Practice as much as possible by thinking through scenario questions, wherever you can find them. TL |
Passed NE with 577. It did not look all that hard but I missed 4 questions I know about. 2 of them were on C of C (Cant'remeber what c of c was now) 2 Drag and drop questions Really easy IRQ5 and Mem 300 for the network card, and on the Windows 95 station Tcpip and IPX/Spx. Not much on layers. |
I took Netes the test Oct 22 and I failed......... I did not know that they changed the test around now. I was expecting common questions like the ones in all the MCSE books. They ask me to drag and drop hubs into some blueprints also where should I connect Hubs, Routers, Gateways, and Briges in a three story building. Some of the questions where lacking more information about the situation there where putting me in. I wasn't ready for this kind of test.Good luck to all.I will try again in a few weeks....... |
Took Net Essentials last Saturday October 24. I sure that
everyone and their mother has already mentioned that the test has gone adaptive?c.no big
deal though. Get this?cI registered for this test on October 13th, and on the 14th,
news was already flowing in that the format had changed. Forewarned, I began studying for
the changes, even though the testing center explicitly told me that their tests were NOT
adaptive. By the way, I took this exam in Tokyo Japan in English. However, When I got to
the testing center, they told me that they had made a mistake?c.luckily I was prepared,
thanx to the dumps. Here$B!G(Js the difference though. My test questions were the same as the ones in the previous dumps. No drag and drops, no OSI models, no mesh topologies, and only about 3 scenarios. Did I luck out or what?!! I had only 25 questions and finished in about fifteen minutes. I seriously doubt anyone$B!G(Js going to get anything like this in the State. My suggestion: just study the dumps: Transcenders for Net Ess. were full of mistakes and wrong info, but if you can catch that, you know you$B!G(Jre ready! Also get your hands on a good Net Ess. book, there are several out there. Mine was written by Microsoft, it didn$B!G(Jt provide detailed answers, but it gave me an excellent overview of the exam and the subject. Last advice?cRELAX?cit$B!G(Js not hard!!! Enterprise is hard?cif you$B!G(Jre going to worry, worry about that one! Mirai |
Just passed Networking Essentials with a 688... Be warned!!! Very few of the questions posted here showed up on my test. I did see a few of the old standbys, but not many. I don't know if it had something to do with me missing my first question on the subject, but I got at least 4 questions which focused on basically the same idea (Hint: the answer was "router"). Anyway, don't stress about it too much. I, frankly, didn't study a whole lot - read the Net Essentials section of "MCSE Core Exams in a Nutshell" and read parts of Sybex's "MCSE Exam Notes" along with the test sim you can d/l from Microsoft's certification site, then crammed for a few hours before the test. Make sure you have a solid grasp on the basics, but don't try to stuff a 400 page book into your head. Good luck all, -Mike
PS - A word to the wise; if you're looking for study materials stay FAR FAR away from New Rider's MCSE Test Prep software. This is, quite possibly, the biggest piece of junk I've ever encountered. Lots of wrong answers, an inaccurate test setup, and plenty of general bugs and typos. More dangerous than useful! |
Passed the exam with a 879. This was my first attempt, and I felt good going into the testing room. I studied for 4 months while working a job with token ring networks. Books I used were MS Networking Essentials, and Cram Exam. I also have many CBT's that I bought from another who also used them. I am now selling them if anyone is interested. They helped a great deal. As far as questions go, everything has been covered in these other dumps, but a word of caution. There are a lot of typo's and just bad answers out there. The best way to pass is to know the information inside and out. So off to do NT Workstation, good luck to [email protected] |
Net Essentials The adaptive format is so much better than the regular test. I passed in 20 minutes with 25 questions. I scored a little over 700. The first part of the test (they say 10-15 questions are adaptive). The next part is just the regular questions, most of which are listed here on this page. It's really hard to remember the exact questions when you get out of the test. But I wouldn't worry about the new format. There are new questions in the adaptive part and they do take some extensive knowledge in the areas to figure it out but if you have studied and not just memorized the answers on this page and if you truly know your connectivity devices, your protocols, etc, then you'll be fine. The rest of the exam is the standard questions. I used the Self Paced Training book, (which actually kinda sux), an MCSE approved Net essentials book(which also sucked but was a good cross reference, the trancenders and of course this page. I was very concerned when I heard of the new format, in fact I kind of freaked out, but if anything it forced me to study harder and REALLY learn the stuff. And that's what we all want anyway right, TO ACTUALLY KNOW THIS STUFF???????? Vernie |
Please include: Test Name:Networking Essentials Test #70-058 I wrote about a month ago. I found the adaptive test very easy and very quick. I finished the exam in 15 minutes, got 25 questions. Easy as pie. I found the test to focus mainly on the Network Connectivity devices bridges etc, know then very very well. Also got a diagram drag and drop story where I had to drag a IRQ and I/O port onto a NIC, remember the most common range is 300-330 and IRQ 15 or any other available one, which means you must know your IRQ's. The OSI model does'nt feature, only asks which layer the bridge etc fits. I remember it by a little line I got off one of the sites "pass through 4 GATEWAYS, ROUTE, the BRIDGE then REPEAT". Meaning gateways at first 4 layers of OSI foloowed by router in the Network layer, the bridge at the Data link layer and of course the repeater at the Physical layer. I cant remember much else. But go through the braindumps and read the book (MS PRESS) at least once and the cramsession site, and you shoud do just fine. Workstation and Server here I come !!! |
Networking Essentials
I just passed this test today 16/11-98 with a score of 762. To pass the test you needed 552 points. This was my first Test ever, so I was quite querrious about it, but looking back at it I didnt find it that hard. I used Que´s NetWorking Essentials Exam Guide, which I read once casually. And then a week before the actual exam, I read Coriolis´s Exam Cram N.E. once but carefully. And also Microsofts N.E. self study book once and kind of carefully to. Then I printed all the braindumps in this site, but didn´t find the time to read more than 1/3 of them. And then finally I used some trancender exams took four diffrent tests once. So a big thanks to all you who contributed to this list, it was a great help for me. I really dont have much to add as everything in the test is mentioned somwhere in previous brain dumps. But I must admit, that there are quite a bit of contradicting opinions in the Brain Dumps, so please watch out when using the braindumps, print a bunch of them out and start comparring. Then it will become obvious which areas you needa double check elsewhere. And by the way this adaptive thing, dont worry about it, at least not as it is right know I had TWO hours to complete the test. The poor Novell guys dont have this luxury, but this might change, so get your exams as it is know, it really nice not having to think of the clock all the time, and after all, who is under a time pressure when making changes to a network? So I kind of like this approach So one down, five to go ( been wanting to write this line ever since I saw this brain dump site. :-) ) Regards Alan Hovgaard |
Networking Essential - 70-058 Just complete my test and I passed it. As everyone said about this braindump site, it is really helpful. But here are some advised for the future takers... 1. Note that this is ADAPTIVE TEST and you have 25 questions and 10 more questions as non adaptive test. (Pending on how you do on the adaptive test, it might not go into the non adaptive part.. It surprised me after doing 25 question and produce the result.) 2. Know your facts.... Write down on all you need to know or remember on the paper provided. E.g. Ethernet... the length.... Seven layers of OSI - TIPS: Remember this: ALL PEOPLE SEEMS TO NEED DATA PROCESSING (application, presentation, Sessions, TRansport, Network, Data Link and Physical)... know your bridge, router, repeater and gateways. Protocols are important too. 3. If you have NT server experience, it might help. Know what user lever and share level security. Here are some breakdown of what I remembered on the test.... 3 question on bridge/gateway and router I think about 5 question on a scenario type. 2-3 on windows NT. Nothing on OSI Model. Get transender... there are at least about 7 - 10 questions that came out from transemder. One very useful tip for you..... TAKE YOUR TIME. IF you are not sure of a question, spend 5 -10 minutes. You have 35 question in 90 minutes. So, each question might be about 2.3 minutes... Bottom line is DO NOT RUSH... It took me about 35 minutes to complete the 25 questions. So..... good luck. |
Hi I just passed the Networking Essentials test!!!
(barely)! The test was a lot harder than what I expected. The material I studied helped a
little. The biggest help was the Transcender tests. Not the actual taking of the test but
the explanations that are at the bottom. You need to know the information. This is the
only way to pass the test. Take as many practice test as you can and locate a good study book!!! I really boned up on the hardware part because that is what seems to make the most sense to me. What a mistake! The test went something like this: 5 questions on netbios, dhcp servers, lmhost, and hosts. 3 questions on bridges, routers and gateways. When you had to decide between bridge or router the answer never had them both together as one of the multiple choices. These were the only cake questions. 2 on slip and ppp. 10 were at least some type of scenario questions. (NOT easy ones) I had two drag and drop questions. One was bridge for both of drag and drops. The other wanted to know how TCP/IP and IPX/SPX interacted and where on the OSI level. It gave me a picture of the OSI level and four blank boxes. yeah... Oh yeah, a couple on dlc and nfs. KNOW NETBIOS!!! I didn't. I am happy to pass but I would have preferred to take this test later in my MCSE studies but it is required by my company to take ANY other courses. Good LUCK ELSIE 11-98

I passed today with 690. The test was straight forward with some tricky ones in there. It asked NOTHING about the OSI layers instead dealing mainly with the practicalities of implementing a network. It asked me loads on TCP/IP and the questions seemed to be an even split between WAN's and LAN's. With studying the courseware I found it a massive help to contruct 'league tables' of the cable and various other qualities. On the whole if you have studied the material I would definitely say have a go. On a positive note the Adaptive Testing seems alot better than the old type of exam. It's over quicker and I think by assessing each student this way is a lot better than a straight 80% pass mark on the old exam type. Adaptive testing is now used in the UK for any Brits out there. Sorry for not including any questions but there is really nothing to worry about if you have done the work. I looked at this site and OK to be honest you may pick the odd question but that's about it - don't mean to be negative about the site it's just my experience and remember also I took the exam in the UK. From a British perspective I found it faintly ridiculous to learn about American standards simply because they are of no use indeed some are illegal in the UK - don't tell the local fire brigade your are installing plenum grade cable in the ceiling cavity ! But no questions of this type were asked but it doesn't mean none are out there. I wish you the 'Best of British' ! Happy Hammer. |
I took the exam and passed a few days ago. Here is my dump
Although many of the questions in the brain dumps are on the exam, most of the answers are wrong. You have to research every one of them. Example: The only thing Response Probe is used for is "to create a capacity-planning base of internal resources for NT." Its used to test the system, not collect data.
I would have scored better on the test if I had reviewed what Performance Monitor, Network Monitor, etc. are used for. If you know the definitions of these, you will be able to answer the questions correctly.
About half of the questions come from the brain dumps, the rest are new questions so just knowing the brain dumps will not help you to pass. You must know the subject.
That's it from me. Good luck! |

Passed NetEss 23 dec 98, I got 688 not high but still a pass. You all know about the Cat tests. I got 25 questions and took 40 mins to do it. READ the questions at least 3 times, the wording is odd to say the least.I had 3 drag and drop, 3-4 situation questions, they do get easier as the test goes on most of the last 10 Q's are on brain dumps. great buzz passing. Good luck all JIMBO-UK |
