070/058 Networking Essentials.

I just got back from the testing center and passed the Networking Essentials! O.K. Everyone, I am to give the basics on how to prepare and study for the test.

Let me tell you about my life story and how I got down this road. blah blah blah. Let's cut the crap, here are the questions I remember.

Which of the following do you use to connect to an IBM mainframe?

-a gateway, DLC was not given as a choice

Only 1 question about OSI layers.

What layer in the OSI layer (Network) does this pertain to?

-A Router

They gave the question with the 1 meter open space above the ceiling and what cable to install. I put coaxial which is a plenum cable.

75 people are connecting to a databases sever through a 28.800K modem and they say the database server it is slow. What can you do to speed it up??

-Add Ram

-Upgrade to a WAN 1.5 mbs.

I picked upgrade to a wide area network because they didn't give details about the server and for god's sake connecting 75 users through one modem. give me a break.

Honestly, 5 or 6 questions about testing the network.  and Protocol analyzer was an option on all of them.

Study and know what the volt meter, and all that crap does.

4 to 5 questions pertaining to WANs all giving

ATM, frame relay, and x.50 as options for answers. . so know this down pat. Know the difference between them

Which of the following protocols are used to resolve NetBios?

gave 12 different options. (Tcp-ip,ipx, nwlink, ftp, netbeui, etc....)

I put NetBeui.

What to use to connect two buildings a 1000 feet apart. fiber.

What to use to segment a network with NetBeui.

-brige, (router wasn't given)

-What to use to segment a network with NetBeui and IPX and Tcp-ip.

-a brouter

What the IEE 803.2 standard is for 1000BaseT Fast Ethernet is.

UTP(???)

200 meters distance.

terminators with 75volts.

STP

What is the IEE 803.2 standard for 10Base T

Unshielded twisted pairTwo horrible scenario questions about connecting

3 cities and maintaining a 1mbps link.

1 had 2 links with 9600 baud rate modems. i said it wouldn't work

-the other used 16 28.800 bps modems connection all three.

(yes, they threw the shitty question about the 16 modems at me. This was

no where in the book.)

They didn't even use T1 connections in my questions.

Read the previous braindumps which have all the other questions i had.

Good luck and may we all make a lot of money.

Two GodAwful scenarios about updating networks without spending a dime.

one option was to use fiber, the other was to use 10base 2.

Lastly of all, I want this post to belong solely to Rob's Braindump site. I think we are all aware of the scammers who are taking Rob's material. Everyone should go to www.lanscout.com and see how they are stealing everything from here. Then you should write them an e-mail giving them a piece of your mind. Not only did they steal Rob's idea of this site, they are stealing every single post he has put up.
