Test Name: Networking Essentials
Test # 70-058

I took this exam a couple of weeks ago and got 948. Most of the questions were very similar to the dumps on this site, so I won't regurgitate them in detail. However, here is a quick summary of what I remember:

--2 questions on PPP vs SLIP (answers revolved around SLIP not supporting Dynamic IP allocation)

--2 to 3 ATM questions (ATM lets you carry Voice and Data on the same line)

--Lots of scenario questions (8-12). 2-3 on use of Auditing to enable an administrator to track file usage, user access failures, etc. 3 questions on use NWLink in Win95 workgroups. 2 questions on IPX and NT Server networks (e.g. what services does an NT client require to share files with a Netware server?)

--Impedence of Thinnet cables

--Ways to overcome broadcast storms (use of routers)

--How to reduce n/w utilization by 50% (Ethernet switches)

--2 to 3 questions on upgrading network backbone speed to 100 mbps (use FDDI, Cat 5)

--2 questions on UTP Cat 5

--How to provide easy administration and resource sharing for 750-node NT Workstation n/w (use user level security and resource sharing)

--Several gateway questions: where do gateways work on OSI layer, what device functions above the Transport layer, unix/nt/sna network protocol conversion

--Several questions on how to measure network performance and troubleshoot the n/w (use of protocol analyzer)

--1 question on BNC connector

--1 on brouter (routing TCP/IP and NetBeui)

Thanks for this site. I found it very helpful. I used a combination of this site, the Microsoft Press Networking Essentials book, and any free MCSE exam questions I could find to prepare for the test.
