There has been some apparently erroneous information
on calculating modem bandwidth here lately ----
The bandwidth of 8 28,800 bps modems is 28800 X 8 = 230,400
bps (not including the affects of compression), NOT 28800 X 100 / 8
or any other such formula.
Check your texts --- that formula is not in any book (I personally
checked MS Press, Sybex, Que and Exam Cram) because it is incorrect.
Apparently this myth began due to a now-corrected Transcender
question.
If anyone can find any written
reference to this formula anywhere, please e-mail me with a SPECIFIC
book and page number.
Thanks,
John
