I just took the Net Essentials exam and got a 673, which is passing but there were some questions that threw me. However, I would say that about half of the questions were posted here on your site, on my exam. I want to thank you all as this site is extremely invaluable and it really helped me pass the exam. The required result and optional results were all covered here on your website. The rest of the questions are BURIED in the net essentials book, etc. Here are some questions that I was asked that really threw me for a loop:
1) Laptop computer is connected to a docking station. You install another NIC card into an empty PCMCIA slot. You find available resources for the NIC added you installed. You then take the computer off the docking station and connect it to a network. You cannot communicate with another computer using some diagnostics program on the network. What 2 things are possibly wrong?
a) Incorrect NIC card driver
b)Try another set of resources for the NIC
c) Protocols on the NIC are not compatible with the Diagnostic program
d) cant remember sorry
e) cant remember sorry
2) Which protocols use CONNECTIONLESS communication?
a)TCP
b)IP
c)IPX
d)SPX
e)UUP
f)cant remember
3) Which protocol provides FILE SHARING services for NETBIOS?
a)IPX
b)SPX
c)TCP
d)IP
e)AFP
f)SMB
g)cant remember sorry
4) What protocol would you use when you have 3 WINDOWS 95 computers and 3 computers running MSDOS and MSNET?
a)NETBEUI (comfirmed that this was the right answer in book)
b)IPX/SPX (I had put this one but think it was wrong)
c)TCP/IP
d)XNS
The next one was very tricky:
5) Which device would you use on a network that uses both TCP/IP and NETBEUI, and you want to use both protocols between 2 segments, but you also want to limit traffic:
a)repeater
b)hub
c)bridge
d)router
e)gateway
I put a BRIDGE because of the NETBEUI protocol but also a router may have been right here not real sure.
Well gotta go guys so take care
