I just passed today first try- with an 844 after studying on and off for 2 months. Im somewhat lax in caring about these exams, Im not even sure at times if I want to be in this field. But damn can I pass an exam!
All I saw on the exam was covered in these sites with the exception of this question
You have all these different computers on a network and traffic is beginning to brim with repeated frequency. Not only that, but damned if there isnt going to be another server with 24 more users coming your way within the very near future. What you NEED to do is cut down traffic by 50%. DESIRABLY, the network should not need any new hardware, nor require additional maintenance after perform the corrective procedure. Also, it should be able to accommodate for the new computers and server coming.
Proposed solution is "cutting down the packet sizes from 1514 to 568 and increasing the TCP window size from 1500 to 4000."
I put that it fulfilled all the requirements because youd have bigger slices traveling (meaning less slices for the same amount of data than previously). This reduces network traffic and in turn, speeds it up.
*Another tricky question was what would you implement to connect two ethernet-works and keep the traffic down. one network uses Nwlink and the other uses Netbui.
I kept switching between bridge and router and then boom gateway. I couldnt figure this one out. I chose router in the end.
finally, my biggest concern for all you out there is to know exactly what protocols do (even the less referred to like DLC, FTP, NFS, etc) and what exactly each network device does (esp bridges and routers).
Also know about 3 WAN connections using 16 RAS ports with 8 28.8 modems on each end (LA, Chicago, NY). will this sustain at least 1 MBps if a link goes down.
Until I decide on the next test to take or whether to take one at all keep on feeding the machine .
