Subject: Networking Essentials # 70-058

I passed the Netess exam today with 827. I used the microsoft book, examcram, transcenders and braindumps. The exam was harder than I anticipated.

I had 12 scenario questions….I was surprised to see 3 optional desired results on some of them.

I didn’t have any questions on cable lengths etc. I didn’t have any questions on wireless. I did have a couple that asked what connector went with thinnet and another for UTP. Which media can transmit more than 100 mbps (fiber).

I had a diagram that showed a mess topology. There was also a question that showed figures from performance monitor and asked what needed to be done to increase network performance.

I had a couple questions with a new computer on the network that appeared to be configured correctly on setup with software…what is the problem….and another that was the hardware is setup correctly….what software is causing the problem.

I had a couple questions on ATM. I had a question that asked which of the folloing are dial-up (SLIP and PPP)

I had a TON of questions with NWLink……probably 10 questions with it in some form or another.

I had a couple scenario questions wanting to increase network performance by segmenting. One proposed not using the bridge part of a brouter and switching entire network from NetBEUI to NWLink and using the router portion. Had another one that was similar but suggested using a repeater, which is obviously wrong.

I had quite a few questions on the OSI model and even had a question that showed a diagram of the OSI model. Most of them were just asking what layer certain devices operated at. I had several questions which gateway was the correct answer.

There were some security scenario questions. Use fault tolerance, protect against viruses, auditing, protect against power outage, and locked environment for server.

I think of anything else at the moment. It is amazing how quickly the information escapes.

Good Luck, Landon
