Subject: Networking Essentials BrainDump

I used the MSPress Self Study Guides, Exam Cram and these brain dumps. These brain dumps are wonderful. I skimmed through about 1/2 of them and got a real sense of what the test would be like.

Like lots of people whose brain dumps I read, I got the blue screen questions about the 3 cities connected with T1, one scenario with 2 links, the other with 3 links. I got the blue screen question about utilization.

I got the blue screen question about netbios naming schemes. Lots of questions where protocol mismatches were the problem....

Read through these earlier brain dumps and you'll get the idea. There are just a few things I'd like to help clarify. In reading the brain dumps there was conflicting information occasionally, so I'd just like to vote for the way I see it.

1) on my exam the question about UNC came up. the correct answer was computername\\sharename

There was no choice for servername\\sharename.

2) There seemed to be some confusion about coax cable readings in some of the brain dumps. As nears as I can tell, the proper answer seems to be:

When everything is working, the terminator should read 50ohms, the cable should read infinite and the connectors should read infinite. Getting a 0 on a cable is bad.

3) There was also some confusion in the brain dumps about netbios naming and what could be duplicated. I agree with others that only the computer name cannot be duplicated. If you think about it, it makes sense that the domain and workgroup name can be duplicated, this is how you join an existing domain or workgroup. And share names can be duplicated, because what really distinguishes them when you access them is the computer name.

Best of luck to all.
