I did the Network Essentials test yesterday and I passed with a score of 863, this was my first test so I am a happy camper, test is hard but if You are prepared You be OK. Here are my thoughts:

About 75% of the questions I got on the test were here, what a great resource to study what You won’t find in the book, here are a few questions:

Why does it takes longer when You send packets from Ethernet to Token ring and is very quick when You sent it from Token Ring to Ethernet?

  1. Ethernet packets are 1500kbs and Token Ring are 4000kbs, so from E to TR more packets have to go and is longer than if TR to E were packets are bigger and it goes faster with less packets. Got that? I hope so.

They ask a lot of questions on protocol analyzers and most of the answers are protocol analyzers.

There were about 10 questions with scenarios and to me that’s the harder part of the test so mark them and come back to them.

Be prepare to answer about T1 lines, ISDN and ATMs.

Routable protocol vs non-routable.

NetBEUI, DLC and LAT are the only non-routables, everything else is routable.

Where do the protocols sit in the OSI layers?

Remember that any NWLink network problem will be because incorrect FRAME SIZE.

Know your cables types and different specifications on Ethernet. Token ring etc.

IRQ questions –2

PPP vs SLIP.

One question that left me thinking, Reliable delivery when uses unreliable switch connection.

-ISDN

-X.25

-FRAME RELAY

-ATM

That’s all folks, good luck to all……………………………………..Nestor.
