Subject: 70-058 Brain Dump
Brain dump:
I pass 70-058 yesterday (May 5). I used the Microsoft books, the MCSE Test Prep from Que, and the brain dump site. Thanks to all who contribute to this great site.
I first read the Que book, and then answered all of the sample questions (approx. 900). That allowed me to identify my weak areas, and I went back to review them. [Note: there are probably 10 - 15 questions in the Que book that have the wrong answer. But
Then I bought the Microsoft set, and found that it covered some things that weren't in the Que book.
Then I redid the 900 questions in the Que book 2 or 3 times, until I could answer them all.
Then I found the brain dump site. Everyone's experience was so similar that I brushed up a little extra on the material they talked about.
Here is the majority of the test I took:
1
Susan's WAS WORKING, now is not. Others on the network are OK. What's the problem?

Ans: different packet sizes
5
You can ping a server by it's IP address (numerical), but can't reach it by it's name. What is wrong?
Ans: everyone has said WINS, but that was not a choice on my test. I said that the server's name was not registered with the DNS (that was the best of the choices).

.Ans: Transceiver on net adapter wrong.
13
Nwlink network INITIALIZATION of client is OK, client can't get to server., other computers can. Why?
Ans: net adapter incorrect frame type.
14
Connect Netbeui on network segment to UNIX on NFS. What do you use?
Ans:Gateway
15

Ans:Netbeui
16
How do you view NETBIOS names on a network?
Ans. WINS

Ans. SNMP
19
you need to cable an office, but you can't rip anything up and it must be cheap?
Ans. Bus net and coaxial
20
what's the purpose of NDIS?
Ans. Allow network cards to be independent of the protocols.
21
You find that the network is getting slower and when using the performance monitor you see that: CPU time 4% page/sec 2% disk 44%. What to do.
Ans. Disk striping with parity.
22
You install a network card and your system no longer boots
ans. SCSI/Network card IRQ conflict
23
what wan link can you use at ANY speed.
Ans. Frame relay
24
what WAN link will give you a reliable switched connection.
Ans. X.25
25
You have a 200 node LAN using TCP/IP and NETBEUI. You want to segment it into 3 subnets and be able to use both protocols. What connectivity device would you use?
Ans. Brouter.
26
you have a mixed DOS, UNIX, NT network. New NT server, UNIX boxes only can't see it. What is problem?
Ans. Protocol mismatch
27
Scenario: you have a large network 750 computers including NT server and Win95 clients. You want to implement security on network resources while minimizing administration. Which method should you implement?
Ans. Centralized user account with resource-level security
28
which of the following can provide a WAN link with digital voice, dat and video?
Ans. ATM
29
Which is used for at least 100Mbps?
Ans. ATM
30
Definition of client/server?
Ans. client makes requests, server does back end processing
31
You have to set up 2 computers to connect to the network. All components IRQ'S are set ot deault value. You have to set up both NIC with the following: MAC address = 0114AS558957; IRQ = 5; I/O Base Memory = 300. The computers are not able to communicate o
Ans. RESET MAC address to factroy settings
32
On what layer do SMBs reside?
Ans: application
33
A client's computer connected to an IPX network, Netware initialization OK but still cannot talk to the network. What is the problem?
Ans.wrong frame type
34
you have a network with the data on the servers, in a separate room, NTFS and a lot more good things. Required: you have to ensure hardware reliability with 2 hours downtime acceptable, assure data protection, fault toleranc. Optional: protection against
Ans. meets everything
35
Network performance reports a large number of broadcast storms. The network uses NETBEUI. What is the best thing to do.
Ans. Use router and TCP/IP instead of Netbeui.
