Subject: my experience with network essential exam
I passed my Network Essential with 879 over 1000. Ha, now finally comes the chance for me to drop few lines on this site. This exam was not an easy one for me as I am not exposed to networking job, anyhow understanding of networking from theories is somehow essential.
Here are what I can have for you!
1. A client with NWlink protocol cannot access to shared resources in
the network. All other clients no problem. Reasons?
Options include:
- protocol mismatch
- netbios name for the client is found same with the not accessible resource names
- cable failure for the segment which the client exists.
- subnet mask settings for the clients is found wrong.
2. Should know well the ohm readings for terminator (50 ohm), cable (if 0 ohm, replace it!) and the T-connector (infinity) for a Ethernet bus network 10Base2, 5. Check this out to be really confirm about it. Time worth spent on looking for this question's answer!!
3. Have some knowledge about transceiver settings and initialization process during configuring a network adapter. What are the settings involved as we say INITIALIZATION process successful.
4. Take note about frame type settings. This always relate with IPX/SPX.
5. What device to use to detect a defective network adapter card, which generates continuos loop and meaningless transmissions?
- TDR, Volt Meter, Optical TDR and (I chosed: Protocol Analyzer)
6. A network consists of NT Server, MS-DOS clients and UNIX clients. A new NT server is added to the network and found only the UNIX clients cannot access the new added server. Reason is?
Choose from:
- mismatch protocol between the UNIX clients and new NT server
- frame type problem
- wrong binding order for server
- faulty network card on the UNIX clients
7. What is the most economical way to improve the performance of a slow 10BaseT network.
- replacing all the concentrators with what? Switches? FDDI adapter? 100Mbps ATM equivalent? or 16 Mbps token ring equivalents?
8. Which device is to trace the amt of traffic over time?
- protocol analyzer
- cable tracer
- TDR
- medium attachment unit
9. What is a signal interference created by emissions that pass from one cable to another?
- jitter
- attenuation
- crosstalk
- beaconing
- loopback
10.Which device is to monitor network activities and evaluate communicator at the packet level?
- Performance Monitor
- protocol analyzer
11. One client cannot communicate on the network even the initialization is OK. Reasons?
- tranceiver settings of the network card wrong
- I/O port add wrong
- cable segment not well terminated
- packet size setting is incorrect
12. Which to use to create a report that logs network acitivities?
- protocol analyzer
- oscilloscope
- volt meter
- TDR
That's all I can recall. Testing out all the sample questions from Transcender and visiting to this web site is my tactic for getting this exam through.
All the best!
