I passed Net Ess. Exam (879). I wish I had a better memory to help anyone out there who's coming to the braindump for some guidance in their studying. I know I would not have passed if I didn't focus on the material presented here. Before I try to jog my mind for the details, I want to tell you about the worst experience I had…..Getting The TEST SITE. If you can believe, I signed up at a different location and when I arrived there, ready to go for my first exam, the location was CLOSED!

Sylvan isn't exactly rude, but they are absolutely not helpful. My advice: call your location in advance and get directions from them.

Now let's see what I can remember:

1. Scenarios: I had a few of the typical (about 3 T1 lines and 2 T1, if you read other braindumps you'll understand). What I found very difficult was a pair I had on NTFS. I didn't know much more than it's for security and both scenarios had *several optionals. It might be good to study that and auditing (tracking users logins).

2. I was surprised that the occasional definition was confusing b/c of how MS words the question: user/share level security…I was given two choices and told to pick all that apply (when only one should apply). I think I missed a simple definition…it was either crosstalk or jitter b/c of wording (I know both definitions but it seemed like part of each).

3. One question on "network monitoring and being able to look at the packet" it was either performance monitor or protocol analyzer. I chose PA, but I'm still not sure b/c of the first part of the question.

4. Many straightforward definitions: cables, devices (routers, etc.), ATM, gateway, etc.

5. What I didn't find: I was surprised I didn't have any questions on WINS, DNS, SNMP, DHCP, X.25, FRAME RELAY.

6. A couple on NT server w/Netware clients and visa versa (ie: nwlink + file and print for Netware and ipx/comp. + micro client for netware)…UNIX box doesn't work with new NT server…I put protocol mismatch (I think that's right).

Overall, the braindump helped me focus my efforts and I want to thank everyone involved with this. If you're reading this and you're starting your first exam, you can do it. Make it up to your friends and loved ones later, study now, look over the braindumps and read up on topics your unsure of . You can do it.
