Subject: Net Essentials brain dump

I used the Trancender tests for this one, this brain dump site especially:

and these others:

I had only a few questions which were tricky or difficult, the rest were covered by the sites mentioned above.

1) You want to connect two Ethernet LANs. They use NWLink and NETBEUI. You want to cut down on traffic (a phrase like that). What do you use?

CHOICES: repeater, bridge, router, gateway. Brouter was not a choice. I said bridge because it segments traffic, another guy in the office said use a router and ditch the NetBEUI. Think about this one.

2) Select all where you cannot duplicate a NetBIOS name on the same network?

CHOICES: computername, sharename, workgroupname and domainname. AND you had to pick 3 answers.

I've asked many people about this. Other sites say: you CAN duplicate a workgroup, domain and sharename, that only a computername must be UNIQUE. This question was turned around. Since I had to pick three, and it said on the same network, I chose computer

3) Your clients need to connect to IBM 3090 using a 3270 terminal emulation mode. You do not want to install software to clients.

CHOICES: a repeater, bridge, router or gateway.

4) Your clients run NetBEUI on a network segment and you want them to be able to connect to a UNIX computer on NFS network. You do not want to install software to client. What do you use?

CHOICES: a repeater, bridge, router or gateway.

My two WAN questions were:

5) Two T1 lines with two 9600 modems between 3 cities (one leg not covered, ie. one T1 and one 9600 modem from LA to Chicago, and one T1 and 9600 modem from NY to Chicago, but nothing between NY and LA). Required was 1Mpbs speed, optionals were redundancy

6) 3 RAS 16 modem ports, one for each city, with 8 x 28.8 going each way. Same requirement and optionals.

Good luck! The only other thing I can remember that was helpful was the guy who said to read the scenarios from the bottom up - this saved loads of time and worked for me. Thanks!
