I just wanted to say thanks to all whom have contributed to this site before me. I would say that at least 10 questions from this site were on the test. Please keep in mind I have nothing of a photographic memory when you read these questions. Here are some of the questions I had not seen here before:

My selections noted with "***"

1. You have X Windows servers and X clients in your network. There is only one domain. From 7:00 am to 9:00 am your network utilization reaches 100%.

What is the cause?

  1. Broadcast storm
  2. Malfunctioning network adapter card
  3. Malfunctioning router
  4. Increase traffic from morning domain logons ***

2. I had a drag-n-drop question where you had to design a network. On the left the choices were: Client, Filer Server, Print Server, and Applications Server. On the right was for computers: On Windows 95 client with a Pentium 120 & 64 megs of ram, a 95 machine with a 486 processor & 16 megs, NT Server with Pentium X & 128 megs of ram, then a NT Server with dual Pentiums & 64 megs.

Now this confused my because I dragged the file server onto the single processor server then dragged the print server onto the same server but wondered if it would record both? So I did the natural thing and tried to take of the print server and nothing showed underneath. Hmmm. What I ended up doing was making the dual processor server the application server, the other server the file server, the Pentium 95 station the print server, and the other 95 station just a client.

3. There is Joe Blow’s laptop that works in the docking station. (That is it sees the network OK) Now you are to add in a PMCIA network card into the second PMCIA slot so the laptop can attach to the network while not in the docking station. You check to see what IRQ and memory settings are free. Then you take the laptop out of the docking station and install the network card. Next you connect it to the network through the new network card and it does not see the network.

What is the problem?

  1. Enable some 32 PMCIA thing – not sure
  2. Install the latest network adapter driver
  3. Choose a different PMCIA slot
  4. The resource settings are wrong ***

(I’m thinking now it is B)

4. You have 5 Windows for Work Groups and 5 MS-Dos machines you are going to setup in a peer-to-peer network. Choose a protocol that will use the least amount of RAM.

  1. TCP/IP
  2. NetBEUI ***
  3. Apple Share
  4. IPX/SPX

5. You have a network you need to split into two segments and decrease utilization. The computers on the network are using IPX/SPX. What do you need to segment it?

  1. Repeater
  2. Hub
  3. Router ***
  4. Gateway

6) Select all that only use a password on shared resources for security? (Choose all that apply)

  1. Windows for Work Groups ***
  2. Windows 95 ***
  3. NT Workstation
  4. NT Server

7) What wide are network service can provide reliable connections over unreliable switched circuits?

  1. FDDI
  2. X.25 ***
  3. ATM
  4. Beaconing

These are all I could remember. Good Luck to all who follow!
