BRAINDUMP for NETWORKING ESSENTIALS - My Experience
Hi all,
used these Braindumps a lot, so now it is my turn to give something back.
Took my first exam of the MCSE on Friday 1 May 1998 and passed with 879 out of 1000, not great, but not bad either. The exam room was very hot which made concentrating a bit hard so will be seeking another centre for my next exam.
Im not going to recite what was in the exam because they are already covered in previous braindumps and also because I cannot remember in any case. What I would like to do is give some tips on studying and revising etc.
I studied using Sybex, MS Press, QUE Test Prep and of course these braindumps.
Sybex covers approximately 60% of the course, it is a good read but dont rely solely on it. MS Press covered 80-90% but again dont rely solely on it. QUE had loads of practise questions with occasionals bits to read here and there (it was this book that actually informed me on NETBIOS names and the UNC - Naming convention, not covered in the first two books). These braindumps were invaluable study aids, but be warned some of the info is incorrect so please check them out.
All 3 books have typo errors. I found also that Sybex and MS Press disagree on whether you can use a bridge to connect di-similar LANS (ie Ethernet and Token Ring), Sybex says you cant, MS-Press says you can. QUE agrees with Sybex, but I think MS-Press may be right, (not sure really), If you anyone out there knows the answer please let me know. QUE actually gave wrong answers to some of the questions.
If you are looking for good books, check out www.amazon.com. Not only are the books cheaper to buy, but most have honest reviews with ratings by readers who have bought the books and I have generally found them to be a good guide in selecting PC books.
Study every day, or at least dont go without studying for 2-3 days. I read Sybex once, MS Press once, did all the labs and questions and read all the braindumps and did all the demo questions I could get my hands on. If you have time, study the NT4 books as well, as some questions from the NT4 books appear in the exam. In the exam I took the practise test, on question 7/8, I wrote down everything I could remember that may be useful on the scratch paper, then did the 8th question then started the exam.
I have a few mnemonics for protocols and what Network layer they are at that may be of help, please check that the layer they are at are correct as I came across many references that put certain protocols in either one or the other layer. So I have placed them in the layers I think they reside according to the sources that agree the most.
Remember All People Seem To Need Data Processing - for OSI Layers
Heres are some sentences/ways to help with protocols and what layer they are at.
Session - Netbios, notice that Session starts with an S and ends with N, other way round for Netbios
A TRANSPORT vehicle hit me which left me STUNNed, when I got home I was also STUNNed to see that I had PCDEW. Line up STUNN on top of PCDEW and fill in the rest to get some protocols at the TRANSPORT layer

Com 1,3 (odd nos) on IRQ 4 (even no.)
LPT 1 on IRQ 7 (remember 7)
LPT 2 on IRQ 5 (5+2 = 7)
It is now 8 Oclock - system clock (IRQ 8)
12 mice to feed (Mouse on IRQ 12)
13 unlucky as you now have maths (Math Co-processor on IRQ 13)
(I have 1 or 2 others, but are a bit rude to post here)
I take no responsibility to the accuracy of the info or any errors that it may contain, but hope its of help to someone. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to these braindumps they really were a tremendous help, good luck to those taking exams.
