Subject: TCP/IP 4.0

Here are some tips on the test.
I passed the test on 3/6/98 with a score of 897.

Things to study

1) Subnetting. Please memorize the table, but before doing this understand it first.

2) Commands and utilities - ping, nslookup, performance monitor, network monitor. Why you would use performance monitor over network monitor.

3) Name Resolution

H-node

  1. No Netbios name cache
  2. Way WINS
  3. Baby Broadcast
  4. Lets Lmhost
  5. Have Host
  6. Dinner DNS

M-node

  1. No Name Cache
  2. Baby Broadcast
  3. Love Lmhost
  4. With WINS
  5. Hate Host
  6. Destroys DNS

B-node

  1. No Name Cache
  2. Baby Broadcast
  3. Lets Lmhost
  4. Have Host
  5. Dinner DNS

P-node

Could not make up anything but the resolution order is:

  1. Name cache
  2. WINS
  3. Host
  4. DNS

No matter the resolution node used cache is always checked first.

One thing to remember is that once you are on a WINS network h-node is enabled by default. Actually got a question on that if WINS is not on the network then b-node is used by default.

Different connection issues. Why you can't connect. Sometimes it could be because of the subnet mask or an illegal IP address because of the blocks or even the default gateway. Some of the question asked were, why can others connect to a server in a remote subnet and I can't or I can't connect to any of the machines in my subnet.

There were alot of questions on DNS, WINS (Replication push and pull) and DHCP. What do you need to do to allow so that DHCP services can be used across subnets. Study these.

Using TCP/IP printing services and when you would use the lpr or lpq command.

Dynamic and Static routing. The differences.

The Transcender test were very helpful.

There were alot of scenario questions. I marked these and came back to them later. I had about 10 minutes left when I finished the test. Good Luck
