Passed TCP/IP today, got a 744. I'm not sure what the equates to, but the passing score is 550 or something. I don't think listing exam questions is honest, but I will highlight some issues I think are important to bring up.
1. SUBNETTING. Forget if you hear it isn't on the exam. It is. You must know how to subnet. If you don't know how to subnet, and have to write a cheat sheet down before you take this exam, you have no business taking it. Go take a different elective. For instance you should be able to INSTANTLY identify the binary number of 11110000 as 240. Also, you should know how to subnet given different environments. My hint? Learn to count in binary.
2. WINS/DNS. You need to know how different name resolution works. And what apps use Winsock connections versus Netbios. And how the name resolution works for each one. If I ask you, what resolution method h-nodes use first, you should be able to answer that. You also should know the utilities needed to troubleshoot these communication methods. Replication methods are also important. Different types of DNS servers, and the role they play. And without question, you need to know how to troubleshoot name resolution. If you don't get it, you fail.
3. LMHOSTS/HOSTS If you don't read the Lmhosts.sam and Hosts.sam files on your computers, then you are stupid. Read them. Understand what they say, and practice. Also understand how they fit in with all other types of name resolution.
4. TROUBLESHOOTING Know how to troubleshoot TCP/IP. Know how to diagnose incorrect IPs, default gateways, and subnet masks. Know what utility to use (Netstat, Perfmon, etc etc) Know how routers work, at least in the general sense to isolate problems.
It was a hard test. I think I scored well, but this test is much like puzzles over and over again. Remember this is a "theory" test.
God Bless, and good luck.
