Brain dump for TCP/IP for four.0, 70-59.
To prepare I used Drew Heywoods TCP/IP book and the NT Server four.0
Networking Guide. Overall, I though the test was straight forward and fair.
This test was easy compared to the TCP/IP 3.5 or SQL Admin 6.5 exams.
- Many questions on TCP/IP utils. Know them thoroughly.
- Zero questions on these utils: nslookup, hostname, finger, tftp...but
know them anyway, because you may need them one day...like exam day. :-)
- Many questions on name resolution troubleshooting.
- Study WINS, LMHOSTS, HOSTS, UNC, host names, NetBIOS names thoroughly.
- Understand the difference betw a host name and a NetBIOS name and how
they are resolved in a subnetted environment.
- four questions of the scenario type.
- Know RIP, DHCP/relay, WINS, TCP/IP printing/UNIX, and setting up a
multihomed IP router.
- 3 questions related to DNS. Very easy. Know forwarder, primary, secondary,
caching-only.
- four questions on subnetting. One on maximizing nets given class and
number of hosts, one on max hosts given class and number of nets, two on
choosing correct subnet mask. See the MS assessment exam for TCP/IP 3.5one
for similar questionuestions of the same difficulty.
- Many question.s directly and indirectly involving Network mon and Perfomancemon.
Just know what each can and cannot do. For example, Net mon can be used
to examine packets realtime. Perf mon can be used to chart, log, and the
data can be exported.
- One question on Route Add. Read Drew Heywoods TCP/IP book for a excellent
prep for this questionuestion.
- One question on WINS replication.
- One question on DNS and setting up an alias. (CNAME)
- One question on RAS/PPTP. Know what a VPN is.
- Two questions on DHCP and setting up a scope. Very easy though...just
memorize all scope properties. Know how to setup a reservation.
- Two-four questions on TCP/IP printing. Know lpr, lpquestion, printing
NT to UNIX and UNIX to NT, and what installing TCP/IP printing actually
provides (lpd).
- Two questions on SNMP, but don't remember the details. Just study
the basics of SNMP...what is a trap, community name, accept inquestionuiries
from specific hosts only, etc.
- one question on LMHOSTS file. Know the syntax well. What is #PRE?
Etc.
- one question on HOSTS file. Know the syntax well. Know how these
files are parsed.
- Know WINS, DHCP, and name resolution troubleshooting well and you could
probably get half the test questions correct.
Good Luck!! and keep the brain dumps coming!!
