Thanks to all those who maintain this site.
I took the test on 16 Nov 98, and passed with an 813, the required score was 570, was given 90 minutes to finish and used all but 15 minutes. The score sounds weak, but there were several interesting changes in the test format. This was my fifth test, I have only IIS 4 to go before becoming an MCSE (a few weeks away). I had only 25 questions on the test, and I viewed it as not being all that diffcult.
I used the Exam Cram book (which was very helpful) and the Test Success book by Sybex (which was not as helpful, but provided needed additional insight) then version 4 of the Transcender tests. I cannot stress how much version 4 of the Transcender test looked like the real exam.
Although the introduction to the adaptive version says you will be presented with two different sections of the test 15-25 questions then another 10, there is no discernable break in the timing or format. It is completely continuous. Also, according to my assessment, if you miss a difficult question, there is no immediate feedback by giving you a difficult question, it is completely random, do NOT try to divine any reason to the way the test presents you with questions, don't try second-guess the selections, just treat the test as a normal exam. If you know your stuff (as did Jeff in the previous dump), you will do fine.
I am pretty disappointed with the lack of detail the other Brain Dumps on the adaptive version contain (as well as the frequency with which they are updated), so I will add as much as I can here.
1) There are several "Select & Place" questions on this exam. I missed two of them simply because of the way the interface was arranged. When you click the "Select & Place" button, you are given a window that will show you a couple of boxes (in this case, should the WINS servers be PUSH, PULL, or PUSH/PULL) that require you to drag and drop one of several options onto the box. When I first opened the window, I saw only PUSH SERVER, and no other options, but I knew that one was PUSH (for DALLAS), and PUSH/PULL (for serverA in LONDON). I missed the question because I could not find the Push/Pull option in the screen. NOTE WELL: you have to enlarge the window to see all the options, as several of the questions show only the first option when you click the "Select & Place" button. You will know what I am talking about when you get to the questions. BTW, it was question 17...
I had exactly FOUR questions like this one. One of them asked you to define five terms about DHCP by placing the correct terms on the definitions (Client Reservations, Local Scope Option, Global Scope Option, Exclusions, & DHCP Relay agent - just know their definitions). A small note on this one, the boxes on which you are supposed to drag and drop the terms obscure the definitions somewhat, so be ready to interpolate some of the words in each definition. Again, you will understand what I mean when you get there.
2) If the test asks you how to view network statistics in a CHART, the only answer is Performance Monitor.
3) The other dumps are correct, there is no need to memorize the switches for the UNIX utilities. However, I did have a question that looked like this...
You need to copy a file from a UNIX box to your NT Workstation. The UNIX box does not allow anonymous logins. What do you use (choose two):
A. FTP
B. SCOPY (bogus option)
C: RCP
D: TFTP
E: REXEC
I chose FTP & TFTP, but check the answer for yourself.
4) There were several questions that tested your knowledge of WINS, DNS, master browser resolution. If you can connect via net use or Explorer, you are most likely using WINS or LMHOSTS, but FTP or TELNET uses DNS or the HOSTS file.
5) There was a question about how you configure a workstations to browse all computers in the domain without using WINS, i.e., how do you configure LMHOSTS? I chose:
include all domain controllers with #PRE & #DOM in the local subnet
include all primary domain controllers in remote subnets
look this one up, as always, but I believe I am correct.
Finally, I had 5 scenario questions, the answers had not changed, they were still
A. produces required result & all optional
B. produces required result & one optional
C. produces required result & no optionl
D. does not produce the required results
The scenarios were easy, and very similar to the Transcender version 4 questions. I agree with some of the other dumpers in their assessments of version 1 for TCP of Transcender as harmful, as I used it as well. Use only version 4 of the Transcender exams.
Good luck, all - and thank you.
