TCP/IP à Result: 913 (750 to pass).
First of all I really want to Thank Robert for this terrific web site
it has helped me thru all 4 of my exams especially Workstation!
I have written Net Essen, Wkstation and Server and I must say that this
is one of the easier exams I have written so far (if there is such a thing
with Microsoft!). I feel like I knew a lot of the info already due to studying
for the others. The math thing was the only hump to get over, but once you
master the chart it is all downhill from there.
I used the exam cram books for the last 3 tests they are terrific
in my mind! Granted, some of the info is incorrect, but it really helps
you focus on what you need to study. 1 good resource book is needed in order
to look up info you dont understand in the exam cram. As well the
tr**** exams and THIS web site! Thats it that is all you need!
Actually, the 1st 8 questions were brutal & got me a little
freaked out! I had only answered 2 questions (6 unanswered/marked) in the
first 15 min of the exam. I really had to haul ass through the rest of it.
I got 6 scenarios right off the bat and 2 questions that really stumped
me! Luckily after that nightmare, I received much more of what I was originally
expecting. Here is what I remember.
The Biggies DNS, WINS, DHCP how they work together in a
ntwk.
- What kind of Dns server need for load balancing w/out zone transfers
- What kind of Dns server need for backing up
- What kind of Dns server need to process queries for internet
- How provide DHCP redundancy
- What need when set up Relay Agent DHCPs IP add
- Know DNS & Wins record types Unique Dns entry
if each comp only has 1 IP
- Scopes client reservation > scope level > global - if
the tcpip config is changed manually on the comp itself that will override
any option set on the DHCP server (ie. change IP address on the comp)
- Scopes Always 1 scope per subnet, define lease period as part
of each scopes config
- Client reservation need to assign IP to the Mac address of the
comp
- Remember you can use WINS thru the DNS server & ALSO the opposite
- WINS server can go to the DNS server for name resolution too!
A lot on utilities perf mon, network mon, netstat & nbtstat.
- What to use if session suddenly stops responding netstat
- What to use to monitor ethernet & tcpip stats netstat &
network mon
- What to use to view tcpip stats that are cumulative from the last time
you started the comp netstat
- What to use to gather stats and export to a spreadsheet to analyze
Perf mon
- What needed to capture and analyze frames, then send to a file
Ntwk mon
Math/Troubleshooting Know that CHART (check previous entries to
this site)
- I had trouble with a couple of these. A could connect to remote compB,
but not a local compC. The weird thing was that the choices only included
1&2. SM or DG wrong on A 3.SM wrong on B 4.DG wrong on C -- I chose
4, but have no idea why having a wrong DG would effect a local connection????
- Usual diagrams with either SM, DG or wrong IP address look at
the transcenders for these types of questions if you can get them
you will have no troubles with the ones on the REAL test.
Odds & Ends
- Printing Need on Print Server - LPD/Tcpip print service, share
printer (& map port to printer IF the printer is connected directly
to a comp other than the print server)
- Syntax of Lmhosts file - #MH, #PRE, #include
- Printing Use LPR to send print jobs, LPQ to view the print que
- Browsing use Wins, Lmhosts file or enable router to pass broadcasts
one of these 3 will be the answer to the problem.
- Browsing If PDC (ie Domain Master Browser) is down, then cross
subnet browsing will no longer be available (the Master Browse list is
not being updated and sent down to each subnets Master browser)
- Route Add syntax à Route_add_destinations
ntwk Id_Mask_SM_This routers default gate IP - Remember that the Route_delete
does not need the Mask_SM in the syntax
- Name resolution process know the order of the H-node broadcast
Netbios cache, Wins, Broadcast, Lmhosts, Hosts, Dns
- SNMP If you dont want any Mngt console program to be able
to access your SNMP agent can select only accept snmp pckgs
form these hosts on the security tab.
- RAS DG of the Ras server = blank, DG of the client is the near
side of the Ras Server (tricky wording on this one)
Thats all for now Good luck in your studies have
fun!!!
