Mats Braindump for Internetworking TCP/IP on Windows NT 4.0 - 70-59
I passed yesterday with a 965 in about 40 mins. This is my fourth exam, just IIS and NT Enterprise left !!
Its true - if you can do the Transcenders and read a lot of Braindumps you cant fail. I used the Microsoft Hand On Self Paced Training book which was good, but very dry and technical to read. You really need to know a bit about TCP/IP before using it.
Anyway, on to the important stuff - The subnetting table is important I had 4-5 question for which I needed the table. The question came in 2 forms - You have a network with xx subnets and have been allocated an a this IP address 132.147.0.0. What subnet mask should you use? Or - you have been allocated an IP address of 132.147.0.0 (or whatever), you need to be able to have at least xxx clients on each subnet, which subnet mask allows you to maximise the number of subnets on your network?
I also had probably 10 questions on Which utility to use to perform a particular task. For instance - Which Utility do you use to view IP address to MAC Address resolution? And the choice would be : NETSTAT.EXE, NBTSTAT.EXE, ARP.EXE, PING.EXE AND ROUTE.EXE. The only one that slightly confused me was one I have seen on other Braindumps which says Which Utility can you use to view IP statistics since the computer was booted? Other braindumps have said they were asked for 2 answers and chose NETSTAT.EXE and Network Monitor. I had the same Question but only had to give one answer. Both NETSTAT.EXE and Network Monitor were given as answers. I chose NETSTAT.EXE - I dont know if this is right. The rest of the utility Qs were obvious.
There were 2 further questions I had problems with (perhaps the 2 I got wrong):
The first I have seen on another braindump but, I hadnt appreciated the significance of it. You get an exhibit picture which shows 2 subnets connected by a router.. The subnet on the left has a Server called Container (or something like that) and a PC called Wksta1, the subnet on the right has one server called Market. The IP address of Wksta1 is 140.7.2.22 the IP address of Container is 140.7.2.223 the left side of the router is 140.7.2.1. I cant remember the IP address of Market or the right side of the router. It doesnt say what the subnet masks are. The problem: Wksta1 can ping Market and receive a reply (across the router) but cannot ping Container on the local subnet - what is the Problem? The obvious answer is that the subnet mask of Container is incorrect but that is not one of the answers. The answers are - a: The Subnet mask of Wksta1 is wrong, b: The default Gateway of Wksta1 is wrong, c: The default Gateway of Market is wrong or d: The Default Gateway of Container is wrong. The fact that Wksta1 can ping Market across the router implies that there is nothing wrong with Wksta1 or Market, leaving it to be a problem with Container. But, having the wrong default gateway wouldnt affect a ping across the local subnet. Im confused I chose d: The default Gateway on Container. I would be interested to know what the right answer is (and why)
The Second question I think I have seen mentioned before: You have a computer on a network that is using WINS. There is an LMHOSTS file on the computer that has 2 entries:
158.56.22.223 Product
134.251.3.221 Developer
You can ping 158.56.22.223 form the workstation, but, when you try to connect using NT Explorer using the command \\product\data you get an error - Name not found (I think, but it might have been Bad IP address (I went out and celebrated last night and the brain from which Im dumping is a little fuzzy!)). There were 4 answers. One was completely irrelevant and I cant remember it, the second was The workstation is not configured to use DNS which is also irrelevant as explorer uses NetBIOS name resolution (and the name is less than 16 characters). The two possible answers were - The name has been specified incorrectly in the LMHOSTS file and The workstation is set up as a P-Node. I chose the P-Node answer because it seemed more likely.
Apart from those 2 I have seen every other question in Braindumps or in the Transcenders.
Good Luck
