Test Name: TCP/IP TEST #: 70-59
This test was very easy.. I would not be scared of it if you know your stuff. I used real life experience and the exam cram combined with the transcender exams to prepare for this exam.. I had 25 questions and passed with an 870.. I was in and out in 20 minutes.. The adaptive testing isn't that bad, (maybe because I'm used to them from the Novel exams) Things you need to know:
- WINS and LMHOSTS files : application of and how to edit
- DNS and HOST files: same as above
- Also remember that host files are used mainly for unix based machines that can not used WINS services directly.. they can however use WINS services indirectly if a WINS proxy is installed to redirect the computer name broadcasts.
- Although I didn't have any direct subnet questions, know the table anyways.. It is a good reference when you need to calculate which subnets are invalid and what the scope of each subnet is.. I had 3 or 4 of these questions..
- DHCP and the BHCP relay agent: same as WINS, HOSTS, DNS and LMHOSTS...
- Also remember that only some routers are RFC compliant and pass bootp requests.. If you are having problems connecting to your dhcp server that is on a different subnet and the router connecting the subnets (or any router in the path to server) isn't RFC compliant then you will not get an ip address..
-Know route, tracert, ping, netstat and nbtstat and switches..
- Remember 127.0.0.1 is the localhost address.. If you try to ping that and it comes back invalid, IP isn't installed correctly on the local machine.
Good Luck to everyone !!
