Subject: MCSE STUDY: tcp/ip 4.0 questions (someone (Herb?) enlighten Me!)

I took the tcp/ip test (70-59) test Saturday and sadly this is the first of 4 that I failed, I got a 741 and need a 750 to get the magic green bar. I use the Sybex book to study and as everyone said (darn I hate it when I don't listen) didn't see me through. I purchased another book (the New Riders one) and have been studying away for a Tuesday retake. But enough about me.

My question concerns the area of multiple subnets connected via router. What I'd like to know is if I have 3 subnets all connected to 1 router how does this effect various utilites. This is how I have it in my mind.

Example: A,B,C are connected to router.

  1. WINS. a wins server on A will not help resolve IP addresses on B,C you need to put a wins server on B,C and make them push pull partners.
  2. DHCP on A will dish out ip addresses to B,C only if the router is Bootp enabled, furthermore you should define a scope for A,B,C
  3. DNS on A will service B,C with out any help
  4. RIP is not need as an aid to any of the above.

I think that the above is incorrect someone please show me the errors of my ways!

I wish to be ignorant in the ways of NT 4.0 tcp/ip no more.
