1) Thanks to everyone who contributes to this thing.

2) I passed w/ 571 needing 570. I'm not quite sure what that means,

though. Like the actual questions, the test format was a bit deceiving. It

said to expect 25-35 adaptive questions, then 10 non-adaptive. At the 25th

question, it said I passed. I never even got to the second 10. I either

did really well, or passed by the skin of my teeth.

3) Some gotcha types:

I

Two subnets. Subnet A is blah blah (not imp). Subnet B is the focus. On

Subnet B, WkstA has IP 172.225.19.182 G8way 172.225.4.1 mask of

255.255.252.0. Server has 172.225.21.18 G8way 172.225.17.2 mask of

255.255.252.0. Router G8way is 172.225.19.1. WrkstB is blah blah with the

wrong G8way. Both Server and WrkstA and B on the same subnet (though you

wouldn't think it).

Why can't WrkstA talk to Server.

a) IP of Server incorrect

b) IP of WrksA incorrect

c) G8way of Server incorrect

d) G8way of Wrksta incorrect

Looks like everythings wrong to me. For this question you really need to

look at exactly what is being asked. You're not being asked why you can't

chat accross the subnet, so my theory is who cares what the G8way is(since

they all were wrong). It's a class B mask w/a valid subnet so that seemed

fine. Process of elimination said...hmmmm must be a bad IP. ON WHAT

THOUGH?...Figured Server must be correct so boom....that leaves bad IP on

WrsktA. The picture they give has a few other PCs and Servers on the other

Subnet that appear to have their own problems, but they do not figure in to

this question.

Moral.......focus only on what the question is asking. Don't try to

troubleshoot the whole problem.

Q) RexecD is loaded on Unix box. What do you use to execute a command.

a) FTP (duh)

b) SNMP (duh, duh)

c) RSH (hmmmmm)

d) REXEC (ahaah!)

I think both C + D will work, but I chose REXEC since, well, it remotely

executes a command. I think RSH does similar but without authentication

III

On the "Proposed Solution" questions....PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT IS *NOT* IN

THE SOLUTION!!! i.e. Server has 4 NICs. You want to dynamically assign

IPs and effectively route traffic. *If it does not say enable IP

forwarding traffic will not be routed, therefore...solution won't work*.

It might also say "installed and configed DHCP Relay Agent". Cool, you

say, but it said nothing about installing the DHCP Service! Be carefull on

these. Someone else in this BrainDump said that a good way to test these

is to first and foremost validate if the Primary Objective is achieved...if

not......click "e)" none of the above and bugger off to the next scenario.

IV

Sometimes, it's like you *have* to assume!

Ex: Q) You cannot resolve Netbios name - what gives?

a) DNS not enabled on Client

b) WINS not enabled on Client

c) Your cat's ass is bleeding

d) Bad subnet mask

V

The test gave a screen shot of an IPCONFIG /ALL and asked you to figure out

something or other (I forget). The only part I remember is that as I picked

apart the screen, the IPAdress was 172.x.x.x. - a class B. The netmask

they had in there was 255.255.255.0 - Class C. I hope this was a typo

'cause I could not figure out what this had to do with the question - since

a bad subnet would not produce any of the results in the choices.

Anyhow...the question was all about WINS and

DNS...thinking.....thinking....thinking.......ahhhh...yes....NetBios for

DNS resolution was turned off.....somehow that was important to the

question...(wish they'd let you learn from your mistakes). Again...don't

let mistakes (intended or otherwise) in the question throw you off the

trail.

I lucked out on my test. Most Q's were relating to Gateways, netmasks (no

ANDing), WINS, DHCP, DNS, Broadcasts. Did not test on #of hosts vs #of

networks (though study that for sure.....if you don't get it, you probably

don't understAND (get that pun?) the relationships between IPaddressing,

netmasks, gateways, etc. and why the numbers are what they are)

TIP: Learn how to calculate the addresses, classes, subnets, etc. I did

not use the table. Just understand how binary numbers work, what an octate

is and that 2n-2 formula you see dotted around this Brian Dump site.

TIP: Make sure you know that routers usually do NOT broadcast. This piece

of info will help when resolving WINS questions/problems accross subnets

TIP: I'll say again...if it does not say IP Forwarding is enabled....then

the solution won't work

TIP: Netbios resolution order mnemnomnic (whatever)

TIP: Study, Braindumps, Study, Braindumps, Find a network, Study,

Study.....enjoy it too.....we work in this field 'cause we enjoy it. Pay

attention to detail when troubleshooting (on the tests and on your WAN's,

LAN's and Quake networks)!!
