Well I passed but not by much. I used transcender tests, took the official Microsoft courses and used every site on the Internet I could find.

Out of everything I found and studied, almost none of the questions I had were on the test… Not the transcenders, not in the books I used and not in the brain dumps or crams sites. I think Microsoft has published new questions for this test. I had a friend pass this test last week with a 945 score. I just skimmed by. He said almost all of his questions were close to the practice tests transcender published and what was posted on the brain dumps. I don’t know, maybe I was just unlucky. But watch the wording on the questions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess a pass is as good as anything. But I thought for sure I would have scored higher.

Study and know the following:

Ras like the back of your hand, but how to implement it with other servers. One question was about several clients dialing into a ras server using a 3rd party PPP product. To access the network and a separate group of users needing access to a database on another server. What type of security do you implement to allow only the group of users to use ras and have encrypted security to the database?

Know Fault Tolerance. And read the questions don’t assume anything…The questions are very misleading and tricky.

One question stated you had 5 hard drives on a SCSI controller. You need to implement fault tolerance for your system files. Blah blah blah. What fault tolerance should you use? It was disk mirroring. Make sure you read the questions.

Know how to implement NT in a Novell environment with dos and win 3.x computers using netbios and client for Novell networks.

Find out everything you can about Client Services for NetWare and gateway Services for NetWare. Know them inside and out.

Study policies and auditing. Several questions on this.

Know about roaming profiles and what happens when the server fails. This is covered in the other brain dumps however the test question is different from what is posted. Remember to read the question and eliminate the wrong answers first.

Know the frame types and how they are implemented with Novell (IPX).

Know disk administrator, dir replication and what computer can replicate or import.

One question stated a group is always transferring 100 MB files to a server on a TCP/IP network which is slowing down the entire network what do you do? In the answer it had several TCP/IP answers like add a network card to this or that. I said install NET BEUI, but wasn’t sure. However it made the most sense of the answers given.

Know how to back up a registry. Know binding order of protocols. Know LMHOSTS files and where to place them on a server or client over RAS network.

A lot of questions on troubleshooting drivers. Boot to last known good, boot to VGA mode etc.

I had 2 questions on ARC paths however they were different from the questions that were posted.

Know logon scripts where to place them to be replicated.

I saw the following questions:

Actual size of stripe set W/Parity

Export Computers

Import Computers

Backup Registry

Man Profiles/ Server fails

Tips:

Study what ever you can get your hands on. The brain dumps are a good resource. It gives you a good heads up and lets you know what to look out for.

Several of the dumps were close enough to what the questions asked that you could eliminate the wrong answers. It usually boiled down to two answers.

Good Luck,

3 down 3 to go enterprise is next.
