I passed - Thank God for this great site.
Make Transcender your Bible!!!!!!!!
Understand the explanation for each question and how they will apply to each
scene.
Warning. If you have not taken Windows NT Workstation before NT Server,
review NT Workstation questions by Transcender.
RAS Questions:
1. Know that RAS log is used for troubleshooting RAS errors. This is enabled by editing the registry. This question will have been tested in the NT Workstation exam. See Transcender for revision.
2. Know what utility to use in monitoring RAS. Example, Mary is trying to establish connection to RAS but the connection keeps dropping. What utility do you use to monitor this connection. You are given the following choices:
Performance Monitor
Network Monitor
RAS Admin Utility
3. You must configure PPP settings for TCP/IP on RAS server to access applications that support Windows Sockets. If you are tested on this question, do not choose "Install windows sockets interface from the media source"
4. Know the securities provided by RAS. Many RAS security questions are in Transcender test, Option C Question 55, testing choosing RAS security by the Client. CHAP presents this option. MS-CHAP is the best secured.
FAULT TOLERANCE
Several questions on mirroring, duplexing and stripping with parity.
Mirroring Two disks drives on one controller. You must
use the "break mirror" to repair a dead
Disk
Duplexing Two disks drives on two controllers.
Stripping with Parity - This is the best Fault tolerance. Need atleast three disk drives. Non of the partition must have boot or systems files. Use the same disk space from each disk. Example. You have three Adaptec SCSI drives with 500meg in Drive 1, 600Meg in Drive 2 and 750Meg in Drive 3. To do stripping with parity you will use the least space (500Meg) You will partition 500Meg on each drive, giving you a total of 1.5Gig. One third of 1.5Gig (500Meg) will be used in storing parity information and 1Gig will be used for data.
If one of the drives fail, get a new drive that is atleast 500Meg and from Disk administrator, do this (this is the tricky part that is tested)
1. Select the strip set that is working
2. Select the new drive with atleast the 500Meg
3. Click on Generate from Fault Tolerance Menu.
Refer to Transceder B Q 52 for more explanation.
Troubleshooting
Know when you will use "Boot from the Last Know Good configuration" and using the "Emergency repair disk". This is covered in Transcender.
Understand the ARC name use. Transcender C, Q 6 and 12.
Monitoring
Tricky questions come here. How do you monitor increase in your page file. You can use the Pages/Sec counter. Transcender C, Q19 is relevant.
Use Performance Monitor to send an alert to a Domain user on the % of a resource (memory, disk) where it is more or less than a value. You can also automate a batch file or send a page to an Administrator. There is Server Manager as an option. But know that Server Manager is used for systems error alert configuration.
Where do you view performance in your Performance Monitor. The answer to the tested question is log. Transcender B Q39. Log records performance for later analysis. Report view present values in column while chart view display information in real time or from a log.
Netware and NT Connectivity.
Know the difference between NWlink and Gateway Services for Netware.
NWLink is a protocol that is used to communicate with Netware. It can
be used at client and NT Server. Gateware services is a gate to
Netware. When installed, it configures NWLink by Default. You can not
use NWLink to access files on Netware from NT Server. You must install
Gateway Services for NetWare.
