Subject: My Braindumps for NT4 Server and Workstation

My NT4 Server and NT4 Workstation questions are together because I took both exams at the same time and I can't remember which questions were from which exam.

Performance Monitoring

Which stats to use for Excess Paging?
Answer: Pages/Second

Use an NTW running Performance Monitor to collect stats from 10 servers. Want to increase responsiveness of foreground apps on this NTW.
Answer: Increase PM Time Interval.

How would you use PM to view TCP/IP stats?
Answer: Create a log file.

How would you use PM to collect info on Server usage over 1 week?
Answer: Create a log file.

RAS Connections are disconnecting immediately – how to diagnose?
Answer: Alter registry to create a log file.

Want an applications memory dump on point of application failure. 2 graphics – Dr Watson and NT screen which defines System Dump files.
Answer: Dr Watson deals with failures of Apps.

Convoluted question about "No Access" overriding everything.

A Sales user in Sales group promoted to Manager and added to Managers group which gives access to a PrivData share. User can’t access PrivData. User is still a member of Sales which has "no access" for PrivData share (no access overrides everything).
Answer: Delete user from Sales Group.

Fault tolerance: 1 controller, 3 disks. Requirement is to keep data off System Partition, optimise reads and optimise the amount of disk space used for fault tolerance. My immediate reaction was Stripe Set with Parity, but this requires 3 disks and if you keep data off the system partition that only leaves two disks. However, on further thought the system partition may only take a portion of disk 1 leaving the rest of disk 1 for data, so Stripe Set with Parity is the answer.

2 controllers, 2 disks – which method gives the greatest fault tolerance?
Answer: Hardware Mirror or Hardware Duplex.

What other configuration can you provide to a workstation from a server running DHCP. Mail Server address, DNS address, Default Gateway, WINS Server address, default FTP address (tick all that apply).

10 concurrent connections, 1 server. What tool do you use to manage them?
Answer: Server Manager

Installed Client Tools for W95 – what do you use from the W95 PC to configure File Security and Printer Security?
Answer: Windows Explorer (Windows Explorer gets an additional property when you install Client Tools for W95).

TCP Printer, which 2 items do you need to configure it?
Answer: IP Address and Printer Name.

Local Office with NetBIOS applications used 90% of the time. Linked to a remote office using TCP/IP applications 10% of the time. How do you optimise network speed? Some options suggested changing the binding order on the server and workstations - binding order is not relevant. Can’t remember the correct answer though.

User password altered by Domain Administrator and at next logon user told password has expired. Why? Change password at next logon is default on User Manager for Domains when password is changed.

How can you set up a home directory for a user on a BDC?
Answer: You can use a UNC name.

Unauthorised user somewhere on network so you decide to audit logons and find every user account has 100+ logon attrempts within one minute. What do you do? Account Lockout, alter min password age, alter max password life … (I think account lockout is correct)

Network with 1 PDC, 4 member servers. Need to freate a BDC.
Answer: reinstall NT on a member server.

How do you configure a modem for applications?
Answer: Use control panel modems

How do you configure a tape drive for applications?
Answer: Use control panel tape devices

How do you backup NT registry without closing server - Disk Admin, Server Manager, NT Backup? (NT Backup is correct).

2 servers, main 1 with tape and main 2 without tape. Backup of workstations and servers is taking too long. Do you:

? Add 2nd tape to main 1 and backup simultaneously.

? Add 2nd tape to main 1 and backup sequentially.

? Bigger tape in main 1

? Add a tape to main 2, backup your workstations on main 1 and your servers on main 2

Dunno what the answer is but it’s not the second one!

You have a Win95 PC capable of running NT. You want to change it to NTW. 4 solutions – 2 didn’t work (e.g. use the W95 to NT upgrade option!), but two did. One was to install NTW in a different directory which works and gives you a dual boot system. One was to format the disk and install NTW. Depends what you think they mean by change. I think the format and re-install is correct.

What file do you need to boot with a SCSI disk no BIOS – ntbootdd.sys.

You boot NT, select MSDOS, get "Non System Disk", what could be wrong? List of solutions of which two could be correct – boot.ini is damagedor bootsect.dos is damaged. I went for bootsect.dos.

How do you install NT Server of NT 3.51 for dual boot?

Graphics showing Replication settings for Import and Export. The important point here is that files must be in a sub-directory of the directory paths shown in the graphic for it all to work.

You install a new network card and manufacturers driver. Boot, Blue screen of Death, what do you do.
Answer: Last Known Good.

Install a new monitor, screen blanks and goes back to monitor display properties, what do you change? I think it’s display type, they also offers refresh rate, color pallette and one other.

Install an EIDE Tape Drive, where do you configure it?

You want to print a document on a different NT workstation without installing drivers on your PC.
Answer: Drag document to printer using Explorer.

A document stalls in your spooler, how do you recover.
Answer: Stop/start the spooler service.

You’re printing invoices from an application that doesn’t have a reprint option and the printer jams.
Answer: Do a document restart from the spooler app.

What’s the requirement for a printer pool?
Answer: Both printers on same NT box.

Several DOS programs require a TSR. How do you load it?
Answer: Alter autoexec.nt for each of these DOS apps.

Need to run three 16 bit Win apps in same memory space. One keeps crashing. What do you configure to allow the three apps to run together but not affect other 16 bit apps.
Answer: Run all other 16 bit apps in separate memory leaving these 3 apps in the shared memory.
