NTFS permissions - remember that when you copy a file it inherit target older's permissions - does not matter if it is on same partition or not. hen you move a file within same partition you are simply changing the pointer so it retain original permissions.

Performance Monitor - a few questions on setting up alerts and some of the indicators. Know how to enable the disk monitor which are disabled by default. Here was a question...You are monitoring 8 servers with five monitors for each server with alerts set to report on activity every 5 seconds, and many of your PC's functions are running rather slow. How do you improve you PCs performance. ANS: Set the alert for a greater interval like every 2 minutes.

Also, make sure you know about optimization, and the Performance Monitor! And if you don't know about printing, and NetWare, read now! I did, and it paid of hugely!

Make sure that you have a good understanding of the domain models, trust relationships, and user accounts on a domain (and what those accounts would have access to in a trusted environment.)

Know about AUTODIAL capabilities

KNOW this back to front and inside out. The questions were a little

tricky and you had to decipher the combinations i.e. which has priority,

when to accumulate and that NO ACCESS is dominating.

KNOW that you lose permissions going from a NTFS to FAT partition

(copying files).

KNOW moving files on same PARTITION retain original permissions.

KNOW SHARES have FULL CONTROL, READ, CHANGE + NO ACCESS. Oh yeh you can

set this on a FAT partition SHARE accross the network (but not if users

log in locally).

KNOW WHO can take ownership of a file and then how to organise ownership

to someone else.

I.e.

1) Admin take ownership

2) Assign Take Ownership permission to other user

3) Have other user take ownership.

PRINTING:

---------

KNOW that a PRINTER POOL uses all the same printer drivers.

KNOW how to set up a PRINTER POOL and know MS terminology - PRINTER

(QUEUE), PRINTER DEVICE (actual hardware printer).

KNOW what rights can be assigned for users printing.

I.e.

When to assign Printer Operator

When just to assign Printer permissions to users

When to assign Document Management.

RAID:

If you don't KNOW RAID well before you walk in you will probably lose

10% of your marks.I had 4-5 questions on RAID.So know RAID like the

back of your hand.Oh yeh you'll get a question on how to BOOT when the

main drive of a Mirror Set is down. This includes breaking the mirror

but only after you have booted using a boot disk that you have edited

the boot.ini and changed the ARC naming convention line to point to the

good mirror partition. So know the ARC naming convention, but you'll

have to be able to apply this to the hard drive senario of the question.

MISC:

KNOW that UMD and ACCOUNT POLICY menu selection for setting for all

KNOW how and when to use ERD.

Didn't have much at all on trusts but one question required me to

understand TRUSTS and create a GLOBAL group add domain users and put

this GLOBAL GROUP in the local group on the servers.(I think it was

backup Operators).

KNOW the basics of GSNW strongly...didn't go into it too deeply but you

had to know that it was used to provide MS users access to the NETWARE

server via the GATEWAY on the NT server.Know that you need NWLink

installed.
