Create a user account named NTGATEWAY and assign it appropriate permissions

Install TCP/IP

Create a group named NTGATEWAY and assign it appropriate permissions

Create a NetWare accessible volume on the NT server

7.Watch for the typical incorrect frame type question when clients are unable to communicate with the Netware server. Several users are trying to connect to a RAS server on your network, but they are getting disconnected as soon as they dial in. What step would you take to troubleshoot the problem?

Modify the Registry to create a device.log file

Use User Manager to monitor client connections

Use Server Manager to monitor client connections

Use the Remote Access Admin tool to monitor the ports on the RAS server.

8.You are on a Windows95 client with the client network administration tools installed. You want to manage file permissions from this Win95 client. Which tool do you use?

User Manager for Domains

Server Manager

Windows Explorer

The Network option in Control Panel

9.You are on a Windows95 client with the client network administration tools installed. You want to manage printers connected to remote NT servers from this Win95 client. Which tool do you use?

User Manager for Domains

Server Manager

Windows Explorer

The Network option in Control Panel

10.You have several files located in a directory on an NTFS partition. The Everyone group has Read permission to the files. You copy the files to a new directory on a FAT partition. What happens to the permission on the files?

The permissions are inherited from the new directory

The permissions remain the same

The permissions are lost

The permissions must be reassigned after being copied to the FAT partition

11. You move a file from one directory to another on the same NTFS partition. What happens to the permissions on the file?

The permissions are inherited from the new directory

The permissions remain the same

13.You are installing TCP/IP on two computers located on the same subnet. You assign each computer a unique IP address. What additional information must you supply?

Default gateway

Subnet mask

Wins server

DHCP server

14.You are installing a DHCP server. What TCP/IP related components can you specify for your clients? (select all that apply)

15.Bob is a user on your NT network, and he wants a home directory so he can store some files. How do you give Bob a home directory?

Use User Manager for Domains and specify a UNC path to the home directory for Bob's account

Use Server Manager and specify a UNC path to the home directory for Bob's account

Use User Manager for Domains and specify the domain name, server name, and share name for Bob's home directory.

Use the Network option in Control Panel

16.You have two disk drives and two disk controllers. You want to implement fault tolerance so that if any disk component fails, users will not be affected. Which fault tolerance feature should you implement?

Disk Striping

Disk Striping with parity

Disk Duplexing

Disk bogus answer

17.You have 6 SCSI drives configured as a stripe set with parity. One of the drives fails, and you replace it. What must you do to recover the failed drive?

Using Disk Administrator, select the new drive and choose Regenerate from the Fault Tolerance menu

Using Disk Administrator, create a new partition on the new drive and then choose Regenerate from the Fault Tolerance menu

Do nothing. The new driver will automatically be recovered

Use Server Manager to regenerate the new drive

There were several questions involving duplexing, mirroring, and striping, and how to recover from a failure in one of these systems. If you know the chart we filled out comparing and contrasting mirroring vs. striping with parity, you'll do fine. The tricks I saw on these questions involved having two hard disk and implementing striping with parity (you must have three disks for this), answers involving striping

when fault tolerance was involved (striping without parity does not offer fault tolerance), and using the wrong tool when implementing striping/mirroring/duplexing (the tool is Disk Administrator, not User

Manager or Server Manager, etc.) Also, when you recover a mirror or stripe set, you select free space, not create a new partition, and for a mirror set, you must break the original mirror before recovery. Know the arc naming convention in the BOOT.INI for both SCSI and non-SCSI drives, and know that if you have a SCSI device without the BIOS enabled, you must have NTBOOTDD.SYS on your boot disk.

18.You have a client computer that is dialing in to your RAS server. The client computer is only capable of DES security encryption. Which option should you select when configuring the RAS server network configuration? (Look at the screen shot on pg. 354 of the Core Technologies material)

In the Encryption settings, select Require encrypted authentication

In the Encryption settings, select Require Microsoft encrypted authentication

In the Encryption settings, select Allow any authentication including clear text

Disable the DES security on the client computer

19.You are installing a RAS server and want your clients to determine their own security encryption. Which option should you select when configuring the RAS server? (Look at the screen shot on pg. 354 of the Core Technologies material)

In the Encryption settings, select Require encrypted authentication

In the Encryption settings, select Require Microsoft encrypted authentication

In the Encryption settings, select Allow any authentication including clear text

Disable the DES security on the client computer

There were a few more RAS questions involving protocols that I cannot remember, although it's covered on the Transcender exams. Another RAS questions I saw involved knowing which protocols support Windows sockets (TCP/IP and NWLink) - the answer to my question involved NWLink.

20.You have a customer database located on an NTFS partition. The Accounting group has No Access permission to the database. The Managers group has Full Control permission. Maria is a member of the Accounting group, but she just got promoted to a manager. You add Maria's account to the Managers group, but she complains that she is still unable to access the database. What do you do?

Remove Maria's account from the Accounting group

Instruct Maria to log off and back on

Delete the Managers group and recreate it

Assign Full Control permission directly to Maria's account

21.Your NT server's performance has been declining. You determine that excessive paging is the problem. What can you do to increase performance?

Increase the size of the page file

Decrease the size of the page file

Add more memory

Use the System option in Control Panel

22.Which NT Performance Monitor counter would you monitor to determine if excessive paging is the cause of decreased performance?

23.You want to monitor TCP/IP on several servers in your domain from an NT Workstation computer. What must you do?

Install SNMP on the NT Workstation computer

Install SNMP on each of the servers to be monitored

Install the client-based administration tools on the NT Workstation

Another bogus answer

24.You are using performance monitor to monitor several NT servers, and you notice that performance on your workstation has been declining. You want to increase performance of your other applications while you monitor the servers. What must you do?

Use the System option in Control Panel to decrease the priority of the foreground applications

Lower the Performance Monitor update interval

25.Your company has a central office and several remote locations connected by IP routers. Your clients, who are running NT Workstation, access local resources 90% of the time and remote resources 10% of the time. The clients use NetBEUI to access local resources and TCP/IP to access the remote resources. How can you optimize performance so that the clients can access all resources as fast as possible?

Configure the bindings for the Workstation service on all of the servers so that NetBEUI is first and TCP/IP is last.

Configure the bindings for the Workstation service on all of the clients so that NetBEUI is first and TCP/IP is last.

Configure the bindings for the Server service on all of the servers so that NetBEUI is first and TCP/IP is last.

Configure the bindings for the Workstation service on all of the servers so that TCP/IP is first and NetBEUI is last.

26.You want to convert a FAT partition to NTFS. What utility do you use?

Disk Administrator

Server Manager

CONVERT.EXE

User Manager

Answers

C - printers in a printer pool MUST be capable of using the same printer driver.

B - starting and stopping the spooler service will clear the printer (queue)

B - you can install unsupported cdroms by using the setup disks

B - all you need is the NWLink protocol on the server because the clients are accessing it for application services. The gateway services would only need to be installed if Microsoft clients were accessing a

Netware server through an NT server. Microsoft clients would need redirector software (client services) if they were accessing the Netware server directly.

A - occasional access is the give-away here.

C - you need a group named NTGATEWAY, not a user account. This group must have supervisor privilege.

A - the registry setting to create a device.log file is the appropriate action because clients are not getting connected. The RAS Administrator allows you to monitor the ports for users who are already connected.

C - you set file and directory permissions from Explorer.

C - Explorer is used to manage printers. In the NT 3.5 days, Print Manager was used, but this tool does not exist in NT 4.0.

C - FAT does not support file-level permissions, only permissions on a shared directory.

B - because the directories are on the same partition, the file does not actually move; it's pointer in the FAT table is changed. Note: if this would have been a copy instead of a move, the permissions would have

been inherited from the new directory.

A - permissions are inherited because the file is moved to a different partition, and the file actually moves to a different location on the disk.

B - the subnet mask is always required. A default gateway is also usually required, but this question states that the two computers are on the same subnet; thus, a default gateway is not required.

A,B,C,E - DHCP can be used to assign all tcpip related information, but an FTP server is not one of the configurable options.

A - User Manager for Domains is the tool you use, and all you need is the UNC path to the home directory.

C - use duplexing because you have two controllers.

A - Disk Administrator is the tool, and you must choose regenerate - it doesn't do it automatically. You do not create a new partition because you must use free space (by creating a partition, you get rid of the

free space).

A - RAS supports DES encryption, so this is the option to select.

C

A - No Access always takes precedence, so Maria must be removed from his group. If the Accounting group had permissions other than No Access - say Read - then B would be the correct answer because she would have to log off and back on to generate a new security token.

C - adding memory is the only way to cure excessive paging

B - excessive paging is when you have to swap information to disk, so high disk activity would indicate excessive paging

B - SNMP must be installed to monitor tcpip counters. You install SNMP on each of the servers you want to monitor (installing on your workstation would only allow you to monitor your workstation and not the

other servers).

D - although B sounds feasible, D is correct. If you lower the performance monitor update interval, it updates at a slower pace, thus providing more processor time to other apps.

B - you configure binding order on the clients, not the servers (configuring binding order on the servers would have little effect, if any, on client performance). NetBEUI would go first since it is used most often.

C - A is the trick answer to this.
