Subject: Windows NT Server 4.0 - Braindump
Hello everybody!
I just came back from Sylvan.
I read at MCSE Hardcore that the Workstation was the toughest exam of them all. Saying that the failing rate for the Workstation is around 70%.
So, I was very confident that for this one (SERVER) I was gonna score well. How wrong I was. I must say that this test was, at least in my opnion, tougher than the Workstation which was the first test I took.
On this one (SERVER) I got a puny 782 in contrast to my 960 on the WORKSTATION.
The toughest part for me was Connectivity.
You must know RAS and Netware well.
I had a whole bunch of question on RAS.
Here are some of the questions I can recall:
1) A user with win95 and a third party PPP software which supports only DEC encryption wants to connect to your RAS server. What type of encryption that provides the best security must you use?
2) How do you install NT server over the network?
3) You want to add a NT server to you Netware network. All your clients and servers are Netware. What must you install on your NT server to allow clients/server to access your SQL application?
4) You want to add another printer to your printer pool. How do you do that??
5) Your network runs way too slow. How do
6) You want to implement fault tolerance and you got 2 HDD and 2 controllers which one do you implement?
7) Your server has 2 modems installed. The RAS users complain that once they get connected to the server, the connection is lost within 3 seconds. How can you solve the problem?
8) You have a disk with 2 partitions. The first partition is FAT and the second is NTFS how can you convert the FAT partition to NTFS??
9) Your network consists of 1 PDC and 5 member servers and 50 workstation. You want to replicate the PDC so that in case it fails the user can log on to the network. What must you do?
10) A user has a mandatory profile. What happen if the server which restores the profile is unavailable?
11) You want to make a boot up disk and the server has SCSI with bios enable. What files must be copied to the boot up disk?
12) Your Windows NT server has two network cards. Your network has 100 Windows NT workstations, and the entire network is running TCP/IP. How do you enable routing at the server between the two network cards?
13) What must you do to allow your NT clients to access a Netware server thru your NT server. NT Gateway/NWLink is already installed on your server.
14) You erase your bootsector due to a virus. How do you restore the bootsector?
15) Your print device brakes and there's still some unfished print job. How do you redirect the print job?
16) How do you set an alert when the hard disk space falls below 25% on 5 different member server?
17) You install a new hard disk on your mirrored server. What must you do first to make the new disk part of the mirroring?
18) Jobs are stuck in the printer spooler. How do you solve that?
19) You suspect that you might need more physical RAM. Which counter must be set so that you can find out if there's excessive paging?
20) Your network binding is configured as follows:
Clients: TCP/IP first, Netbeui second
Servers: TCP/IP first, Netbeui second
You have on Central location and 5 remote location. The users use 90% of the time Netbeui to connect locally and 10% of the time TCP/IP to connect remotelly to the Central location. How must the binding order be configured?
21) What happens to the permission and LFN when you move a directory from NTFS to FAT?
That's all I can remember.
Thanks once again everybody.
