I just took the server exam and scored 854. ( Still non-adaptive )

I only scored 823 on workstation.

I did discover braindumps until after I took workstation.

Some notes on test taking.

Use the queues!! Read the question. If the answer jumps out at

you, click it and move on. If you narrow it down to one or two, pick

one and mark it by clicking on the MARK box in the upper left hand

corner. Also, write down on your pad or paper the question number and

the answers that you have not eliminated.

If you are totally clueless, skip the question and move on. After

the last question, click <NEXT> and a display of all of your selections

appears. There are also 2 boxes labeled ==> MARKED and INCOMPLETE

(note, they are not mutually exclusive, if you mark and not answer a

question, it will appear in both queues.)

Press MARKED and only the marked questions appear in numerical

order. Answer or take your best guess with the marked questions, and

unmark them. Move on.

Take another shot at the clueless questions. You might find a few

clues from the other questions that you answered. It happened to me on

both exams. Take your best guess, and answer all questions. Unlike the

SAT or GRE (Graduate Record Exam), there is no additional penalty for

guessing.

Now for some common sense stuff that is often overlooked until too

late.

You are entitled to a good environment for your test. You have the

right to call Sylvan Prometric BEFORE you begin the test if you discover

that the test environment is bad. A good environment includes but is

not limited to:

no noise no smoke no distractions appropriate

lighting

a chair that is reasonably comfy, preferably adjustable, and

don't be shy, adjust it to your needs.

I had a minor issue with my test center. The refresh rate on their

monitors was obviously too low. The screen was flickering. I made the

test center aware of this, and by the time I took the time I took

Server, it was corrected.

Two last points. If you smoke cigarettes, and if you cannot go 90

minutes without a smoke, you might want to consider taking some nicatine

gum into the exam. Also, all of these tests are best taken on an empty

bladder. Don't laugh, the test centers are not supposed to let you go

once you begin the exam.

Now for the substantive stuff:

Planning:

NTFS vs FAT -- WIN 3.x WFW and 95 do not support NTFS

Know your RAID levels and their corresponding fault tolerance schema

RAID 0=stripe set without parity - not fault tolerant

RAID 1=disk duplexing or disk mirroring

RAID 5=stripe set with parity

disk duplexing requires 2 physical drives and 2 controllers

stripe set without parity requires at least 2 disks

stripe set with parity requires at least 3 disks

Protocols:

NetBeui is NOT routable, and is fastest

TCP/IP has more overhead is slower but is more durable

NWLink IPX/SPX Compatable Transport is needed for connecting to Novell

Stuff

Installation:

You cannot demote a domain controller to a member server

you cannot promote a member server to a domain controller

you must reinstall NT

Setup.exe is never used to install NT

winnt32.exe is only used to upgrade NT 3.5 to 4.0

winnt.exe is used all other times. It resides on the \i386 directory

you cannot copy the \i386 directory to a root directory because of the

512 file limit.

you must copy the \i386 directory to a subdirectory.

configuring multiple adapters, each has its own IP address

you must understand how to make up ARC names for drive partitions.

there will be several questions along the line of how do you rewrite the

ARC name

of the BOOT files (on the system partition) on the BOOT.INI file in the

event that one of the disks in a mirror or duplex fails.

Managing resources

global groups contain only users

local groups contain users and global groups

remember the Microsoft method

Bill wants us create global groups with users

then he wants us to create a local group with permissions

then he wants us to add the global group to the local group

Connectivity

Gateway Service for Netware is never placed on client or Novell server

Migration tool for Netware requires NWLink

Monitoring and Optimization

add ram to relieve excessing paging

too small of a paging file causes disk fragmentation

Troubleshooting

printer stalled: stop and restart spooler

you cannot boot from the ERD; no way no how

use last known good configuration if you are having boot problems after

changing configuration

never use a disk created on another machine to fix a machine noted in a

question

good luck
