Subject: 67 exam topics
Implementing and Supporting Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 exam series 067.
============================================================================
These are the following questions I found in my exam. I passed first time with a score of
764 which is 76% the pass mark!(Thank God).
It is a difficult exam, much harder than 95 and workstation.
A great deal of RAS and Netware connectivity Netware integration and Migration questions.
Yet if you know the theory and have done all the simulations, questions and tinkering
you should do fine. But for RAS and Netware connectivity read help files, other books and
play with scenarios; because many questions are not covered well in the Micrsoft NT server
self study guide.
*Know fault tolerance very well. eg duplexing, striping, mirroring, etc.
The microsoft self study guide for Server theory and simulations are very adequate for
this topic.
*Know ARC very well. For instance that Scsi bios enabled is considered multi not scsi.
*Know about share permissions, NTFS permissions. How they work together. about copying
and moving files and what happens to the permissions then. The Microsoft self study guide
for Server only touches copy and moving permissions. You need the Server administration
guide to understand share, NTFS permissions. Printing issues, backup, local and global
groups. There are a number of questions regarding administration which come from Admin.
*Know about hardware limits for NT server and workstation. How to install and upgrade.
For instance from the network installation boot disk, from the cd-rom,
when to use Winnt32 and winnt and the necessary switches. See help guide on how to install
NT & 95 from network installation boot disk.
*Know replication (covered well in Microsoft self study guide).
*Know that you must enable DCMP for indepth tcp/ip tracking. See help files on DCMP.
*Understanding printing well. Such as creating pools, that a spool can be moved to another
disk. Redirecting, priorities. What drivers need to be installed on print server to pint
to various clients. NT 3.51 can't use NT 4.00 print drivers.
*Know all the functions of server manager. That you can use it to share folders, disconnect
users, pause sharing, enable replication, set alerts. Know that 95 and workstation machines
can have server tools installed to enable remote administration(know this well).
Many questions on how to administer from 95 machine.
*know about all clients such as Microsoft client for dos and windows. That it can use DHCP
but not wins and DNS. Know all the other old clients also and their limitations.
*What do you do to only allow administrators to log on locally at domain controllers.
*A DLC qestions. Know that you need to install DLC server to use HP/LaserJet Port. You
can use HP/LaserJet on other protocol such as tcp/ip
*Know how to remove NT from a dual boot pc. Know that NT can't see Fat32 partitions.
*No about LFN's and how they exist on FATS and NTFS
*Know that if you have Network servers running 802.2 & 802.3, that you need to manually
configure multiple frame types on you NT server(Nwlink protocl section).
*Know about backups, and that tape backup unit must be on PDC or BDC's to backup registry.
That a registry file must be backed-up to ensure registry backed up.
*A few paging questions. How do you utilize it, such as moving paging file to other disks
and not placing on boot and system partition if possible. If you want to memory dump
on error you must
have page file on boot partition.
*A number of performance questions. Yet they are easy if you know the theory.
Such things as when to use log, alerts, reports and charts. How to check for excessive paging.
What to do if excessive paging = more ram.
Just play with it know how to use well, and how to check for bootlenecks.
*Know about roaving users and system policies. Mandatory roaving users as opposed to the
ones users can change. What happens to roaving users when the domain controller that contains
them goes down.
*A lot of RAS questions and scenarios. Therefore know it off by heart. Also view the help
files and read other books.
Such things as how do you make the ras connection quicker on client. By placing lhmost file
on workstation. Also by disabling roaving users.
What do you need to do to use unc and dns names on workstation to connect to Ras server
Know about encryption and authentication of RAS. How do you enable the client to
automatically use the encryption it specifies. Therefore try thinking of many scenarios.
*Also know the gateway for netware service and client service for netware very well. Know it
very well as there a number of scenarios. Know how to set it up, about FPService Netware etc..
Basically play with many scenarios regarding NWlink protocols and how to integrate Netware
clients and servers into a NT network.
*How promoting and demoting domain controllers work.
*Also one tricky qestions about reducing the network traffic by creating another subnet to the
server. How do you do this? by placing another NiC in one of the machines and how to you set up the ip
addresses.
*Know about Fault tolerance boot disk when you have mirror problem, or when ntldr, arc paths
are faulty. What files to copy to it if scsi.
* One scheduling question when you want to decrease background priority of a job.
*Audting. How do you enable it, who can. How do you auding files, folder and printers
and what will be mentioned in event viewer.
*Know about udf and answer files
