Hello to all and much thanks to everyone who maintains this site. This has
been an incredible resource over the past few weeks I would be willing to
make a contribution if you guys have expenses....
I sat for NT Server 4.0 today, March 8, and passed with 854.
Aside from the braindumps my predecessors have been so gracious to bestow,
I used the Sybex book by (you know him, you love him.... Cheblis), and the
official MS Study Guide Book which I copied from someone who took the official
class. I found the Sybex book to present a whole bunch more information than
is needed, and didn't wise up to this until about Chapter 10. Although both
of the above were necessary, I used the Transcender Tests for about 2 weeks
solid before the test and found them to be invaluable. Also, I recommend
going through about 2 weeks of braindumps and looking for common questions.
OK, here it goes....
Summary:
-
The obvious: No questions on IIS, DFS, what files are missing if system failed
to boot, etc.
-
5 Performance Monitor
-
10 Netware Interoperability
-
5-7 RAS questions
-
5 User Manger Stuff (Global & Local groups, mandatory roaming profiles
-
5-7 Fault Tolerance
-
2-3 on managing, creating shares from WIN 95 and NT W/S computers
A few questions that stood out:
-
A chart was presented where you had to mark the appropriate box in the RAS
Service Settings to allow users dialing in to set their own encryption type.
-
DC that contains profiles is down. Users w/mandatory profiles will be able
to?
-
You configure TCP/IP on non-routed network. What other information must you
also provide?
-
Netware network, just added NT server running SQL app. NW software on all
clients, what must you add on NT Server?
-
Two scenario questions where you were given a server with __ disks, __ GB
each, what fault tolerant strategy do you need to use to protect if one drive
fails?
-
Migrate workgroup to domain, what must you do and with what utilities to
add computers/users to domain?
-
NT Server install on DOS system over network.
-
Several questions on paging file. What perf mon items do you look at to detect
excessive paging, if yes, what do you do, and another on distributing across
disks.
-
Need to monitor TCP/IP, in perf mon, what do you need to do first?
-
A couple on tape backup - takes too long, put another on pdc, or add one
to bdc, etc.
-
How to enable RAS logging?
-
A couple on file permissions while moving, copying to same/different NTFS
partition, and FAT partition.
-
There was more questions than I expected on User Manger stuff - they should
save it for the admin test, bunch of crap if you ask me.
Hope this is descriptive enough for you. If you are gearing down to take
the test it should be no mystery as to what will be on it. The only other
advice I have to offer is to carefully read the Q's and review afterwards
- this saved me from making a very careless mistake because I accidentally
selected the WORST possible answer given on easy question because it was
one above the correct answer.
Good Luck!
Gleath
