took my server 4.0 test yesterday. got an 818. studied mostly the exam

cram guide which was helpful, but it left some things out. i also used

the transcender tests, which i should've studied more, cauz they

would've gotten me thru the ones i missed.

here's what i've got:

-use server manager to add workstation to a central domain

-difference between a network installation disk set and installation

startup disk

-cannot use disk with system files on it in a stripe set w/ parity but

you CAN mirror it

-know the how to configure nwlink for the manual frame type

-know when you need the ntbootdd.sys file

-member servers CAN be used in replication

-questions that ask you about installing a NEW video adapter (other than

the one that it already had in it functioning before) you have to boot

to vga mode and go to display properties rather than going to last known

good configuration

-you cannot demote a pdc to a member server without reinstalling winnt

completely

-for a nonrouted network, all you need to know is an ip address and a

subnet mask

-know about increasing the interval in process tracking so as not to

bias the results

-know what happens when the os expands the initial paging

file(fragmented and apps start slower?)

-you only need nwlink to access netbios applications from an netware

client to a nt server, netbios client/server apps have their own

redirectors in the app.

-minimum requirements for stripe set with parity and duplexing

-you can back up remote workstations, but NOT remote registries.

-know what netware clients can access on nt with only nwlink installed

(no csnw)

-requirements for windows sockets over ras(tcp/ip and netbeui?)

-know what an sap agent is, no details, just what the hell it is.

-know what and how to use an lmhosts file and a hosts file

-how to configure autodial (one phonebook entry for each ras server,

doesnt work with ipx/spx)

-you cannot format a disk with ntfs especially a nt boot disk

-for changing the location of a spooler file, you can go to the Server

Properties in the Printers folder, select the advanced tab and enter the

new destination (can you just extend the volume that the spooler file is

on?)

-if a pdc is down and users have a mandatory profile will they get a

locally cached profile(if they have successfully logged onto the domain

before) OR the default profile

-do you have to have snmp service installed to monitor to tcp/ip

activity counters

-know about the alerter service

-you want to isolate large file transfers for a group that is configured

in one subnet with three servers and 100 workstations running on tcp/ip,

you want to add a second nic to the group server, configure a new

PHYSICAL subnet, enable ip forwarding and connect the users from the

group to the new physical subnet (as opposed to adding a second ip

address to the adapter on the server, configuring a new LOGICAL subnet,

enabling ip forwarding and configuring users to use the new logical

subnet. this will still use up the bandwidth on that same wire as

everyone else)

-is the pdc demoted automatically when you promote a bdc to a pdc or do

you have to do it manually?
