9/04/98

70-67 NT Server Core Technologies

I would like to thank those of you on the braindumps who have spent the time to submit the questions with possible answers to this site.  The site helps reinforce the other sources of study material out there.

I scored a 927 out of the possible 1000 on Friday September 4, 1998.

I mention the date a few times to let you know, the test ISN'T CHANGING much over the last 10 months.

I am not going to list all of my questions, as many have, but reiterate some of the helpful things I used to study.

Study Material Used:

Exam Cram Guide

Transcender

Braindump

New Riders MCSE Study Guide (Read a couple of times, but didn't find it real helpful for the exam)

I want to emphasize that the test is ALMOST EXACTLY like the questions found in the Exam Cram, Transcender, and here listed on the braindumps.  There was only one or two questions that I had not seen, but were very easy to figure out.  WARNING: some of the braindumps with the questions listed are out in left field, and you will know which ones I am talking about, becase you will have never seen some of the material listed, don't be fooled by those.  You will recognize the same questions and answers by cross referencing all of the three sources that I used to study.

I was almost laughing out loud by the 20th question!  Why you ask?  Because if you study the above sources, the questions and answers will JUMP OFF OFF THE SCREEN at you if you studied, and understand why the answers were the right ones like Transcender and Exam Cram explain.  Most of the questions were almost WORD FOR WORD that Exam Cram, Transcender, and the Braindumps list.  These exams are much easier than Novell certification.

If you are not sure of a question, you can almost eliminate two or three immediately by the obviously incorrect answers, like using Explorer for Disk Management functions when Regenerating a Stripe Set with Parity.

I will mention a couple of questions:

The standard Mandatory Profile question, with a twist I had only seen listed once on another braindump.

1) You have THREE domain controllers, the one that your profiles are stored on goes down, by the way, for security, the profiles for all users were MANDATORY.  What will happen when the users try to log in?

A.  Will not be able to log in.

B.  Will log in with there default profile.

C.  Some bogus answer, that could sounds reasonable if you didn't study.

D.  Another bogus answer.

Of course I elimated the other two immediately.  But, the wording threw me off because there are THREE DOMAIN controllers.  I am assuming one PDC and two BDCs.  I chose B, would get a default profile.  My logic is, the other domain controllers can still authenticate a user if they previously logged in, but I am not sure!?!?  It would be obvious if there is only ONE PDC, and it was down, YOU CAN NOT LOG IN, and others agree.  But the tricky wording of THREE DOMAIN CONTROLLERS, left me wondering.  I don't know if I got this correct or not.  Please find out, it should be an easy question to get correct, but just doesn't seem to be.

2)  You have two RAS clients dialing in to your RAS Server, one using a Third Party DES for security.  What do you set in the Network Ras to provide security for the clients?

A. require encrypted authentication

B. some other encrytped answer that sounded good to me

C. encryted authentication

D. Another encryption standard that sounded good to me!

I think I chose C, because an Exhibit in the next few questions show the RAS box where you had to chose which authentication to use for security, I knew then B and D were wrong, I think I guessed at this one.  I haven't found the answer to this one yet, and don't care anymore, but you better look it up, because I guarantee it will be on the exam!!!

3)  Refer to the exhibit about a Disk Mirror, the first disk fails, how do you change the ARC name to point to the second disk.

Exhibit:

Orginal: System/Data/Data

Mirror:  Data/System/Data

Answer: scsi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(2)

There was no mention of Bios being disabled, but it obviously is, because all of the answers started with scsi...

The answer is the second disk on the same controller, disk(1), and the second partition on that disk partition(2)

scsi(0) because only one controller, and rdisk(0), because it started with scsi.

Easy huh....

4)  You have three Netware servers and 40 workstations running Novell client with IPX/SPX.  You want to add an NT server running a SQL database program.  What do you need to do to the server for the Novell clients to use the application on the NT Server?

A. add RIP for NWLINK IPX/SPX

B. wrong answer

C. add the NWLink IPX compatible transport

D. another bogus answer

C is the answer.  I had THREE questions on the exam like this one.  All you had to do was chose the only obvious answer of putting NWLink IPX compatible protocol ON THE SERVER.

5)  You have an NT Server, and 100 Microsoft client workstations on your network.  You want to add a Novell Server to the network.  You want your clients to have occasional access to the Netware server, what do you need to do so the clients can access the Novell server without adding any additional software to the clients?

A. add CSNW to the NT server

B. add GSNW to the NT server

C. something I forget

D. some other stupid answer

B is the answer.  Add Gateway Services for Netware to the server.  I had two questions almost identical to this on the test.  Is this easy or WHAT?  Also, I had another GSNW question.  It asked what you needed to do to complete the GSNW install.  Of course, you want to go to the GSNW icon and Share the drive.  There was another GSNW, where do you create the group to access the Netware Server. Answer, Create the GROUP on the NetWare Server.....

6) Joe belongs to the Sales group.  He got promoted to the Production department.  He was added to the Production group.  The Sales group has had a great year, the Production group has had an outstanding year also.  Joe's boss Fred wants him to be able to change things in the \box directory, but when Joe logs on he can't even access the \box directory.  His computer is a Pentium with 32 MB of RAM (I am making that part up about the computer and RAM, but it rambled on for the entire screen!)  Look at the Exhibit and determine what you would do to give Joe change access to the \box directory.

Exhibit shows the permissions box with the two groups

Sales----No Access

Production---Change

Joes belongs to both groups in the exhibit.

A. Give Joe Administrator rights (Yeah Right!!)

B. Create a new account for Joe...

C. REMOVE JOE FROM THE SALES GROUP

D. some other dumb answer

I didn't even need to see the exhibit to know that you should remove him from the Sales group (C) because he has No Access.  I looked at it just to make sure, but I had seen this one so many times it WAS funny....The ridiculous part was how it rambled on with nonsense for the entire screen, you had to scroll down almost to see the end of the question!  Several other questions that are so easy to answer ramble on with nonsense, if you get through the stupid stuff, they are easy.

7)  You want to manage permissions to a shared Printer on the server.  You have a Win95 machine with the admin tools installed.  What do you use to manage the share.

A. Disk Administrator

B. Server Manager (close)

C. Explorer

D. The control panel network icon...

C is the answer.  There was about four questions on the exam like this one regarding new shares and managing permissions.  They were easy if you know that using Explorer for permissions, and Server Manager for creating New Shares.  Again, look at the other questions, some are way off base and you can eliminate them immediately.

8)  You copy a file from an NTFS partition to a FAT partition, what happens to the file attributes?

You could select mutiple answers..

A. Long file names lost

B. Long file names will be retained

C. Permissions retained

D. Permissions will be lost

This was too easy....I almost choked because I had seen this one 100 times.

B and D are the answers.

The test went on and on.  There happened to be another guy taking the same exam the same time I was.  He was out of there in 45 minutes as well, and I know he went through the test completely again to check a couple of questions just to make sure he didn't blow the super easy ones.

Study the above sources and go whoop up on the tests and get that certification....Good Luck.....Keith
