Subject: MCSE: 70-67 (Server) - Couldn't Help but Notice...
Wrote Server on Monday, and jotted down a couple of 'things' I remembered
while riding the Rocket (as they call the subway here in Toronto) home.
For me, this was the most difficult of all the exams: BY FAR
Anyway, this isn't Sunday, and we're not at Confession, so let's get
on with it.
Just a couple of points I couldn't help but notice I was examined on.
I wouldn't presume to share my answers with you. Perhaps that way, you'll
get it on the first try.
55 questions, 90 minutes
Know and understand these points:
- extra power(s) given to Windows 95 Explorer once the tools are installed
- ARC naming convention - be very clear on this!
- especially the permutations of SCSI
- what is DHCP used for; what can it be used for besides IP address and
subnet mask and Gateway
- can it only be local, or can it be remote?
- what is WINS and DNS? Can they be remote?
- are they static or dynamic?
- if you don't have WINS or DNS, what should you have (HOSTS or LMHOSTS?)
and where do these files need to be installed?
- are they static or dynamic?
- which admin tools work from Workstation and which don't; which are
unique to Workstation
- understand SNMP and when you use it, and from where it can be used
(server vs workstation)
- relationship between GSNW, CSNW, FPNW, and when you use each of them
- enabling vs. activating !!! (READ the question!!)
- when might you ONLY need to install NWLink on the server to make things
happen?
- do you create a user or a group on a Novell server for NT clients;
are these clients the Workstations, or are they the NT server itself
- what do you need to install to do a Novell migration
- you have 1 domain, 3 DC's; you want to be alerted if something happens
on any one of the DC's; where do you configure the alert - from one DC
or do you have to go to all 3
- who can be alerted - user(s), groups?; in which domain (ie - can alerts
be sent to trusted/trusting domains?)
- how exactly do you install NT locally and remotely
- know the difference between setup.exe, winnt.exe, and winnt32.exe
- know when to use Last Known Good, vs. VGA mode, vs. using the ERD;
vs. using the CD-ROM and it's install routine
- when would you use /b or /s or /u switches
- what do you do if the install doesn't recognize your CD-ROM
- can you boot from the ERD? - how about the NT install CD-ROM
- when you install new drivers, do you need to restart the machine? Always?
- lots of RAS questions
- SLIP vs PPP
- NetBEUI and TCP/IP bindings - effect on performance, and possible effect
on client being able to use Windows Sockets applications (or not being
able to)
- multilinking
- security and authentication including DES (whatever that is)
- what authentication would you select if using a 3rd party security
system?
Scenario question:
- 1 domain
- 3 DC's
- 40 Workstations
