Hi everybody,

last Friday I passed the Windows NT 4.0 Server exam with an 800. Needed a 764. Here are some comments and suggestions for taking this exam:

My pool of questions consisted mainly of three areas: RAS, Netware Connectivity and Fault Tolerance. There were also a few questions on DHCP, WINS and DNS configuration and also a little bit on File Permissions when moving/copying to another folder on same partition or on different partitions. I didn't encounter any questions in the form of proposed solution / required result.

Here are some things that really helped me.

1. If you have access to Windows NT Server at home, play around with it....a lot! The test questions require that you know how to get around the interface and what menu options to choose when doing certain things (for example, do you choose "regenerate" from the fault tolerance menu or from the disk menu after replacing a faulty physical disk).

Also, I had two questions that were in the form of a GUI, where it is up to you to choose the correct selections to satisfy the problem. For example, I had to choose the most secure form of authentication to use in the case where there are many clients dialing in with third-party encryption methods.

2. Take the free demo tests provided by various companies. A great place to start looking for the free tests to download is by visiting http://www.axxa.com/candidate/certcorner/mcpexams.htm

There you can visit various helpful websites and download their tests. Allow yourself plenty of time to do this. This is a very time-consuming task, but will pay off, especially because it's free! I strongly recommend the Beach Front Quizzer, Endeavor, and Transcender demos.

3. Use Books Online religiously. I found it very easy to read, and explained clearly in the areas of RAS, Netware Connectivity and Fault Tolerance.

4. Finally, if you took a MOC, especially course #687 (Supporting Windows NT 4.0 Core Technologies), review the Module questions. I had at least three questions that were very similar to those questions.

Let me know if you have any questions about this exam. I'm am going on to take the Workstation 4.0 exam, so I would appreciate any feedback on that.

I found this list to be very valuable to me. Thanks to everyone who provides their input! I'll write again after a successful Workstation exam is complete.
