NT Server in the Enterprise
A warning. This test is hard as hell. Dont under estimate this beast because it will walk all over you if you dont know what its going to be like. As you might have read in previous braindumps, this test is not based on your knowledge, its based on how well you can take very long, wordy, poorly written, ambiguous, time-consuming, mind-numbing questions. You will have to dig through a lot of bullshit to get to the real question, and even after that youll still be sitting there shaking your head asking yourself, what the hell is the real question? I have tried to rehash all the information I can remember from this exam. Bottom line, just prepare yourself mentally for this exam. Watch your time, stay focused on what you know, and youll do fine.
Know trusts well, know the effective rights of a user that logs into DOMAIN A normally and logs into DOMAIN B where DOMAIN B trusts DOMAIN A. Know what happens if they reverse the scenario. Know the difference between DOMAIN guests and DOMAIN user permissions. Microsoft loves using this question to trick people. Its a confusing question if you dont know the difference between guests and users, and when each apply.
Remember that you can NEVER boot from the ERD!! I think I got at least 5 questions that gave ->Boot from the ERD option.
Know that the Server memory optimization question is a piece of crap question. There is no right answer for this question. Question goes like this:
Your server has 600 people logging in as its primary function, the server is also user mainly as a WINS server, how should you configure the memory settings? (gives you a crosshair where you need to click on the correct radio button)
Minimize Memory is supposed to be for under 10 users logging in to a server.
Balance is supposed to be for up to 64 connections
Max for file sharing is supposed to be for anything above 64.
Max for Net apps is for a app server.
I have heard many different opinions on how this should be answered. Many people believe that the "correct" real life answer is D. Since the service that takes care of logon requests is defined as a application, D should be the correct response. Transcender has B listed as the correct answer. While several different books I have read say C should be the correct answer. Your guess is as good as mine (who the hell knows what MS wants as the REAL answer???? Anyone want to tell us what the real "MS" answer is?)
There are a lot of scenario (blue screen) questions on this exam. Transcenders help with preping up for these things. The best way to attack these is to read the situation the read the required result then skip to the proposed solution to see if it takes care of the required. This can really help you save time on the exam if these questions are hard for you. If it doesnt meet the required then its D and you dont even need to bother with the optional results. The best way to tackle any question you are unsure of is to take a stab at it and mark it if your unsure. Dont leave it blank. You can always come back to the question later if you have time, but if time becomes a big issue, at least you have some answer marked.
Know the domain models well, and know what limitations and conditions each one is applicable to. Know when to use which domain model for centralized administration, and decentralized administration.
Know the question on backing up all domain controllers, member servers, and workstations. Know that you need to create a Global group then add to each local group. I had two or three questions on this model, each worded differently in each scenario.
Know that when you place a BDC at a remote domain it will reduce logon validations across the network. This is another question that showed up more than once. They will throw this factor in with the different domain models and try to confuse you.
Know Fault Tolerance well, this is a gimmie if you get any fault tolerance questions. Be VERY careful about the wording of the question. I remember them trying to trick me on the stripe set question. They say stripe set, but dont specify with/without parity. I assumed without since it wasnt specifically stated without. Bastards.
I hope this helps, I wish I could remember the questions I didnt see on the braindumps. My mind was jello by the time I was done and once I was finished I didnt really look back for to long.
