Subject: NT4 Server in the enterprise
Hello!!!
Just passed the Enterprise exam yesterday with a mark of 882.
This site was a great help so thanks to all contributors. This is
definetly the UP side of the Internet! I actually printed out all the
dunps and went through all the questions and made sure that I knew the
answers to all of them.
Also Transcender tests are gold dust, they help you pass these exams.
(If anyone from Transcender is listening you can send me a free exam
(TCP or IIS) for this plug)
This is not a difficult test per se if you know your stuff. It's just
that there are lots of scenario questions which take up a lot of time. I
managed to answer all the questions with about 30 minutes to spare for
the review. The trouble was it took so long to review the trust,
scenario questions that time was definetly an issue. Even re-reading the
questions seemed to take as long as working them out the first time. The
trouble is as soon as you become aware that Microsoft are trying to
trick you then you become paranoid (well I do anyway) so if I get a
question that seems to fit required result plus all options I think to
myself but where's the catch? this is too easy, but many questions were
in fact straightforward and easy.. So for me that's what takes time in
this test, reading through the long questions then looking for the
catch.
So I'm afraid a whole day as passed so I will do my best to remember
what I can. This is not in any particular order.
Bye the way if any information here is wrong THEN PLEASE email me and
correct me. I must have got 6 questions wrong out of 55 I'd like to know
which ones.
1. The printing question where managers, sales and accounts print.
Accounts only to one device. Priority is 99, 50, and 1 respectively.
Then first page, first page and last spool etc.Accounts print only to
one port, the others to a print pool.
It satisfied all reqired plus options.
2) 200 users accessing a Access database.
a) Balance
b) MInimize
c? File sharing
d) Max for net apps
Answer is c.
BY THE WAY in offical Microsoft Press courseware it recommends Maximum
throughput for network applications for domain controllers (irrespective
or load or number of users) as well as application servers. This clashes
with Transcender and other views.
Any ideas please email me.
3) A user form the trusting domain logs onto the trusted domain from the
trusted domain. How? By using the domain/guest group or domainn/usrs etc
I think the idea here is that the domain/guest group can traverse
domains wheras domain/users can't without the required trust.
4) Got two Back up questions regarding backing up dom controllers,
workstations, servers in other domain.
This was a bit tricky because the first one just said that the reqired
result was to back up the domain not domain controllers.
It was appaprent from the second question that by domain they mean the
PDC and BDC.
5) Capapcity planning tool?
Answer. Response probe
though I haven't got the faintest idea still what the hell this thing
does.
6) If you get a blue screen what do you do?
Various choices that included repairing from erd or booting from set up
disks.
If your machine is crashed then it won't boot therefore you must use NT
set up disks.
REMEMBER ERD not bootable.
7) Performance monitor question regarding multiple processors. Which
conter?
Answer. %Total Processor time
8) RAS questions. This was straightforward. I couldn't believe it. I was
expecting the one about requiring password authentication and you then
say that "authentication through clear text" won't work when WIndows NT,
95 and 3.11 will authenticate password by default BUT NOT data. See TECH
NET
(THIS is very badly documented in offical Microsoft courseware, it's
like looking for a needle in a haystack)
I got a question regarding microsoft encryption. Easy.
9) Question on printing. The document gets stuck. You want to print
again.
This threw me because it said Choose restart from Document menu. Now I
thought it should be from printer menu so I chose resume form printer
menu.
I think I messed this one up. I have to check.
10) Lots of trusts questions like putting global in locals to acess
printers etc. Basically just a matter of knowing trusts and reading
questions carefully.
11) The one about joining the domain as a member server without the PDC
online.
Answer: You join as a workgroup member first.
12) Want to install BDC with no PDC online
Answer: Don't Install
13) If Mary wants to log onto domain with new computer what does she do?
Two answers
1) Admin sets up account in server manager
2) She goes into Network ID puts in domain name and gets password to
account given add coputer acoount to domain right.
14) That old favourite! The IIS question
Set up 5 virtual servers for 5 companies
Answer
1) Bind 5 IP adress to net cards
2) Assign 5 IP adresses to virtual directries
Other choices where win servers and DNS server.
I think the idea here is that you only need to set up the DNS and WINS
servers if you are setting up an Intranet because otherwise the DNS name
resolution for the companies is done by InterNIC servers.
See transcender
15) Fault tolerance.
Easy.
One about setting up fault tolerance, use stripe set. Does not give
require result.
Other one about stripe set with parity. Remember that it puts load on
CPU but speeds up read access.
That's it for the moment. I'll post more if I can remember. Good
LUCK!!!!!!
