Hello all. Completed Server in the Enterprise 4.0 yesterday (6/17/1998) . For study I used Exam Cram, New Riders MCSE

Study Guide Server & Workstation (Cassad) and BrainDumps.

I found the exam as everyone has stated, wordy and full of extraneous crap.

At least 8-paired scenario questions, but happily only 5-8 multiple response.

When taking the test I marked the scenarios and attacked them at the end.

What to know

Domain Models. - The first thing I did was write down the domain models and

the characteristics. This immediately answered 4-8 questions just by

referring to my notes.

(This is from the MS Server Resource Kit)

Domain Attribute Single Single Master Multiple Master Complete Trust

< 40K Users Yes Yes Yes

> 40K Users Yes

Central Acct Mgmt Yes Yes

Central Resource Mgmt Yes Yes Yes

De-Central Resource Mgmt Yes Yes

Central MIS Yes Yes

De -Central MIS Yes

You will get questions like: your company wants to implement a domain model

and have Centralized account management and decentralized resource management

what domain model would you recommend? I just looked at my chart and knew to

select Single master

Know group membership Users into Global, Global into local, multiple questions

and answers try to put users into local groups across domains or users into a

global group across domains. Just know the model.

Fault tolerance - probably 5 questions When they say strip set it is without

parity unless they specify stripe set with parity. Know that a stripe set

with parity actually improved read/write performance BUT degrades system

speed. You Regenerate strip sets and recreate mirrors. Fastest Read/write is

strip set but it has no fault tolerance.

Only a couple of easy NetWare questions (thank God). Mainly know that after

you move all of your users, files, etc from a NW server to NT that the NW

clients need either GSNW or an MS redirector. You need NTFS and NWLink to do

the migration.

* You can't move a PDC or BDC from one domain to another, if you do you have

to reinstall NT in the new domain.

* Know the priority of policy selection Machine, User, Group, profile, and how

to prioritize within multiple group memberships

* When measuring performance of a disk if the question mentions a partition

you have to look at the logical disk not the physical

* Know that when a domain user logs onto

* A BDC at a remote site reduces network utilization

There is one question in the braindumps about printing and if you read it the

way it is written the answer is 'does not meet specified results'. There is

no option to "spool after last page is printed" it is "start printing after

last page is spooled"
