Exam Cramp IIS4 (this book suck, don’t get it)

Brain dump (almost all the questions on my exam can be found here)

Microsoft Tech Net

Microsoft Knowledge Base

PCAGE Demo (has good explanation on several test questions)

Transcender IIS4 Demo (Download the demo even it’s 26 Meg, it has some good AVI you can play to learn what simulations are like!)

 Simulation that stumped me:

--------------------------------------

Q: Something like, you have some picture files in your default web directory and some pictures in "images" virtual directory. People can see the picture on the default web directory but not the "images" virtual directory. Do something to solve this problem.

Well, the first thing I did was to check the permissions, both have read permission set, so nothing I can do there.

The second thing I checked was the path of the default web site and the virtual directory. I don’t know if its inconsistency of the exam or maybe this is the problem, but the path for the default web site was in all lower cases, so I changed it to match the exact path, with case sensitive, by browsing to the same directory, just to be save.

Q: Adding a virtual web site to the existing default web site with only one IP address and apply host header to the second web site.

Well, adding the virtual web site is easy, but I had no experience with creating the host header on an IIS machine before, so I guess I flunked this one. I also remember that you have to check the default web site to see if it’s using the only IP or <all un-assigned IP>. I believe you have to set it at <all un-assigned ip> for both, or else it will not work.

Well, you guys have to do some research on this one!

 Other Test Questions:

-----------------------------

You can find most of the Questions on this web site already so I’m not going to repeat the same thing over and over again. Here are some important one i think you guys shold know:

Print out "Thelma" and "Scooby" dumps. They are very helpful.

Know all 3 ODBC errors.

Know how to sub net: good article on this at

http://www.dc.net/wtalbert/IIS3/ipblock.html

Basically just remember:

Bit pattern = Subnet mask = Range Size

10000000 = 128 = 128

11000000 = 192 = 64

11100000 = 224 = 32

11110000 = 240 = 16

11111000 = 248 = 8

11111100 = 252 = 4

11111110 = 254 = 2

Especially remember, if you want to block a range size of 32, use 224. I see this through-out the dump

 How to speed up NNTP on a RAID 5 array?

A lot of confusion here because through out the dump everybody have different answers. It should be "Create additional virtual folders on Multiple arrays."

How do you change the ports on 200 sites, contained on 2 servers at different locations.

"Write a VB script, and run it on ONE side" was not one of the choice on the test. So I choose "use WSH" which also include VB scripting.

You have a Index server in Domain A and have another computer on Domain B which need to be index. what do you do?

Well, if no trust relation was given. just make that computer a part of Domain A. However this may not be one of your choices. You can also:

- Create a trust relation in which Domain B trust Domain A

- Create a user account which may access the resource in the computer in Domain B

- Create a share in the computer in the Domain B in which the user account (you just had create) may access this resource

- Have index server index this share using the same user account

Check out pcage's demo, they have a good explanation on this

That's all i have, good luck!
