This may be my last braindump for a while. I am now a MCSE! I would like to thank each and everyone of you who contributed to this site. The braindumps, are by far, the best resource for passing the MCSE exams. Thank you all again.
First off, let me tell you this exam was the closest I ever came to failing an exam, my score was about 30-40 points above the minimum. I think this is due to 1.) I studied this exam the least, 2.) It had the lowest relation to my actual work experience that I have so far encountered, 3.) I had little sleep the night before, 4.) The test prep materials from IDG and others were not very high quality, 5.) The MMC interface for the simulation was different enough in many respects from the real thing to cause problems. My advice is to read the braindumps and check with real Microsoft materials.
I used the Transcenders new beta IIS software and found it overall to be a good simulation of the exam. I installed Winnt Server 4.0 and IIS 4.0 from the Option pack on my home system and played with it a lot. I used the Microsoft IIS Resource kit very little, and I wouldn't use it. The help files and documentation helped. I have found information on ODBC errors here that I have not found anywhere else.
Know the ODBC errors, I literally had three in a row for my first questions.
Know Index Server, how it works all the types of files that it uses (.htx, .htm, etc), catalogs, how much free disk space it needs, the types of merges, word lists, etc. They had at least 5-6 questions.
Know SMTP. Understand smart hosts, masquarade domains, the directorys (Drop, Pickup, Badmail, etc). When you have too much mail in the queue waiting to be resent, know what to do.
Know SSL. There were at least 4-5 questions on this. Know how to set it up, that it is CPU intensive and what type of errors you typically get.
Know enough about subnetting to know the right subnet mask required to deny/allow access to a given range of IP addresses. I had 2-3 on this.
Know* all about access and authentication. Know what you need to log on locally or remotely anonymously, basic authentication, and Challenge/Response. I had a lot of questions on this and a lot were combined with the simulation questions.
The simulations were tricky, my Trancender exams were worth the money for what I had thought I had right I had missed a crucial step. Practice with a real copy of IIS 4.0 if you can. ANd as many have pointed out, DON'T EXIT OUT BY USING THE UPPER RIGHT HAND "X"!!! Use the exit option on the menu bar of the MMC. Make sure you start a newly created web or ftp site as well.
With the simulations, some were easy, some were not. Know how to make virtual directories, change logging, allow/deny anonymous access, expire web pages, enable HTTP keep-alives, set TCP ports, set ip addresses/UNC and URLs for the location of virtual directories/sites.
I had a few questions on host headers, and on which web site the browser would go to by default.
Know about TCP ports and what is the default port for each type of service.
There was a question about going through a firewall to admin a web site and what port you should set your Internet Manager (HTML) to, I put the RCP port but I may be wrong.
That's about all I can remember,
Good Luck!
