IIS 4.0 (70-087) Exam Comments
& General Study Info

Took IIS 4.0 last Saturday, spent a week calming down after passing!!  The score was not amazing but the bar was GREEN and that was GOOD!!

Thanks to all that helped here, and for offering this site to folks like me to target the studying that is needed to get through these tests.

I don't think it compromises my confidentiality agreement to say that the date 11-19-98 will be one that I will offer as a "GOOD DATE TO KNOW!!!"

This exam should be called Option Pack, because if you just study IIS you WILL FAIL!!

I use IIS daily for the last 6 months and if I just relied on that understanding, which is broad it would have hugely missed the mark!!

Transcender was also a huge help. Do not "Learn" those tests. Take one or two and learn them, if you need to but hold one in reserve to see that you really understand this stuff. Take it cold, no preview.

The exam that I took was not yet adaptive. Having taken the required 6 I can simply say that this was the worst written test that I have ever seen. If you fully understand the subject matter you may pass, then again, . . .

Without compromising my agreement to keep confidentiality, . . . I again say that the date 11-19-98 is a VERY GOOD DATE TO KNOW!!

Thanks again,

Took IIS 4.0 and passed it with ease. Transcender was the only resource I used to pass. Once you can answer the 180 Transcender questions (and understand them) YOU WILL PASS!

The only problem to be aware of is the MMC is different from the Transcender test. When you get to your 1st situation question, take your time and investigate the 1st screen. Double click on items in the left pane and you will see what microsoft has in store for you.

Don't forget to use the file/exit when you are done with the situation and hit apply every chance you get. This test is not as hard as people are telling you!

This test makes me a MCSE & MCP + I.

It feels good. Good Luck,

Lar

great site! note..if you use this site, verify all of the answers.. many are wrong.. sometimes many people agree on the same wrong answer.   Just took the test twice within a few hours... failed the first time with a 672.. needed 727.. i screwed up because i got anxious after cramming for a couple of days.. also on the simulations i messed up on two or three and didnt know i cold redo them and it would erase the prior one..duh.. oh well anyhow passed with an 836 after a 2 hour break... got easier questions the second time around.. anyhow, a couple of issues..

simulation:

Change logging on the ftp and website (in the question it didnt state master property sheet or default so i assumed master) - you want to log anonymous access on the ftp site but not the webserver.

-in ftp - under w3c logfile - under properties to log (advanced tab) there was nothing checked,. wasnt sure if i should have clicked login id and ip address or only login id also there were 4 other options being logged in www so i (stupidly) removed all logging -

ans: only login id should have been removed from www and added in ftp to finish the sim.

also there was a q. about remote administration of web server and you use a firewall that ONLY allows thru ports 21 (ftp) and 80 (http)...

i've seen it around on this site but the options were RPC listener port, enable the firewall for the port that is randomly generated for admin site when iis is installed...

the other two were irrelevant.. i asked an mct about it and he said that if ALL other ports are disabled then you would have to enable that specific port on the firewall and that he's never heard about the rpc listener port ..  anyhow, that's it....

Thank you Braindump, without you I would have not passed this test. I could not figure out the answers to the ISAPI, CGI, and Perl questions after taking the test and failing. After stumbling onto your Web site and reviewing my study materials, I was able to fish out the correct answers from the wrong ones and got a 100% on that portion of the test. Thanks Braindump, I was able to make an 800 this time around, and I really appreciate the help of your site.

Hi everyone and Thank to all build and posted to this site!!!

AL FIN SOY MCSE (I AM MCSE ), i speak spanish and write very very bad english, but i try to explain something about the exam IIS 4 ;-) ...Today i pass the exam with 818... :-) What are my question? ALL TO THIS SITE!!! I print all posted and read twice, and read the MOC, all question i read in this site (Thank AGAIN to EVERYONE), my new question is about one practice with MMC and is about configurate HOST HEADER, i not have idea, but i try, it is my one strange and bizarre question all question again you find in this site...THANK YOU AGAIN AND SEE YOU IN PROXY 2

 BYE...X-Cat

Hey All,

This is to say thanks for this site. I passed IIS 4.0 today with a 837. Not outstanding but hey, I passed and that's MCSE for me! Everything you need to know is here. I would say about 40 questions were word for word. Be careful using some of the answers here though, look them up and understand why the correct answer is correct. I had the Beta 3.90 Trancender and New Riders MCSE Training Guide for IIS 4.0, TUMS (for the day of the test), and this web site. By far this web site was the most useful Check out some of the sites in Brian Talberts webring http://www.dc.net/wtalbert/

There is allot of good notes floating around out there.

Good Luck

Sean

Took IIS 4.0 on Dec 23rd.  Passed with an 800   What i did to pass.

Took 3 weeks to prepare.  Spent 2 full weekends playing with the MMC. Used New Riders MCSE test prep for simulations. Not a great source - leaves too much out, but it is easy to read and gives the basics.  Also used Exam Prep. Not a bad reference, but it still fell a little short on info. Questions and practicals were good. Right before the exam I went to Barnes and Noble and spent an hour looking up the answers I couldn't find in these book.  GREAT IDEA! it gave me the answers I was looking for!!  ALL my exams questions were here, so use all the questions here as your pool!! nothing will be new - it will make everything a piece of cake!

Sat the iis4 test today 24/12, passed with score of 800. All i can say is that don't believe all those that say this test is very difficult because if you are simply trying to gain MCSE status then the best advise that i can give you is read exam cram and definately, i mean definately look at the braindumps posted for this exam. I had never looked at or played with iis 4 and still passed the test, would like to thank everyone who posted here without whome i would no way have passed this test.

Please forgive me for not posting anything but there really isn't any need to as the questions are covered by the various postings on this site.

best of luck to everyone and thank you once again.

Test #: 70-087

Passed yesterday (Merry Christmas to me!) on first try with a 846. Mostly due to this site and the braindumps herein. That completes the MCSE part of my education. MCT and A+ are next.

That said, this is the last time I'll use a braindump for studying. Yes, even allowing that between the books (ExamCram and IDG) lack of detail, Microsoft's obtuse and vague questions, and my single years experience using the product in a production environment, I would have not have passed without the braindumps, I won't use them again. It took me almost a year to do the MCSE, all self study, and I learned alot by practicing, practicing, practicing. This is the only exam where I went in hoping I'd gotten what I needed from the braindumps; the others I knew the material front to back.

The reason is obvious to those of you (as I do) who actually use NT on a daily basis: the braindumps will allow ANY idiot, with a few days of study, to pass this exam. It is scary to think of how many of those on this site who've received their MCSE's, but are not really qualified to run a real network on a day-to-day basis. This is obviously degrading the value of the MCSE designation. Hope some of you who are "paper" MCSE's are my competition in the job market when I return to the States. Should make it pretty easy to find work.

Hi Brain Dumpees,

Just passed IIS4 on my second attempt. Not that easy. I used Exam Cram, Brain Dumps (all the latest) and Sybex Exam Notes. Really research your brain dumps. Brain dumps made TCP/IP and SITE4.0 very easy but for some reason not in this case. Doesn't matter now. MCSE, baby!

Thanks to braindumps and all the contributers for helping me finish my MCSE today.I passed my IIS 4.0 today. It was similar to Eric,s.For all IIS to bees know MMC well.I had 10 of them similar to Gulam.  Thanks again.

walia.

Implementing IIS4.0, exam 70-78

MMC - change existing error messages to a new file and setup a ftp site to a Win95 remote share These were the only two items that was out of the norm, everything else was pretty straight forward per the braindumps of this site.

This is for IIS 4.0!

Just took Internet Information Server 4.0 exam and passed with an 818!  Not fantastic but I'll take it since this completes my MCSE!!!!

Like others on this dump, I found this test to be a lot harder than the previous ones...I scored in the High 800's to mid 900's on them.

Read ALL the dumps on this site.  Then hit the books and find out the correct answers to the questions.

When I complete an exam, my brain is fried!  I really can't remember any of the questions, specifically.  However, I didn't find any surprises in the exam.  It is NOT interactive; virtually ALL of the questions on the exam can be found on dumps elsewhere on this website.  Read ALL of them and then practice with the MMC.

Gonna get drunk!

Ron
Thank-you to everyone who has taken the time to post to this excellent  site. I passed IIS 4.0 recently and I thought I'd give something back by posting my thoughts on IIS 4.0.  All my questions appeared in previous dumps so go over these dumps thoroughly.

I took an age to prepare for this exam as I had no access to IIS 4.0,the MMC or the help files which appear to be extremely helpful according to other dumps. I solved this problem by downloading the exam simulation from the training pages on the Microsoft web site  (IIS4_demo.exe).

This gave me the much-needed practice to complement the Exam Cram & the Sybex book I'd purchased. These books are both weak for the IIS 4.0 exam, in my opinion, and you really need to study the dumps.

The pool of questions seems to be quite small so read Freddy's and Paul's dumps among others. Freddy's in particular is great for last-minute revision. I can't vouch for Paul's answers though!

Anyway thanks again, Good luck and get those Cisco dumps in.

Passed IIS 4.O test 70-087 on 10/21/98 with a 781.

Many thanks to this site and the brain dump at cramsession.com.  I took a class on IIS 4.0 at an ATEC, and studied the brain dumps for 3 days and passed easily (do not be afraid of this test).  Thanks to the brain dumps there were no surprises on my test, but BE CAREFUL 20-30% of answers on the dumps are wrong! Use the dumps to guide your studying and look up the answers if you feel they are not correct!

The only thing I would like to add to the dump that I did not see clearly represented is what one can find in the METABASE (Per MS 936 Coursebook)

*Computer and Website properties

*Logging proerties

*FTP Specific properties

*SSL properties

*HTTP Specific properties

*Virtual Directory & Directory properties

*File proprties

*Filter properties

YOU MUST install IIS 4.0 and play with it and the MMC to pass.  Study hard and you will do fine, good luck!

Chris

By the way I had the Transenders IIS 3.0 tests but found them useless as IIS 4.0 is a totally different product, Transender tests are not needed to pass this exam.

Passed IIS 4.0 exam (70-087) on 11/16/98 with a 763. MCSE complete. This was by far the most difficult MCSE exam I’ve taken. I’ve benefited from this site in the past, so here’s my contribution.

Study materials:

I looked at New Riders, Sybex, Osborne. Don’t waste your money. The only books worth buying are:

  1. SAMS Teach Yourself MCSE Internet Information Server 4 in 14 Days, ISBN 0672312948. See www.samspublishing.com if you can’t find it. This is especially a great book if you are new to IIS. It’s well written, thorough, and the practice exams are on the mark.
  2. Microsoft’s IIS 4.0 Training Kit, ISBN 1572317310. The kit comes with a trial version of IIS 4.0 which you can install, but you will need a box running NT Server 4.0 to get the most out of it. I installed on NT Workstation 4.0 and got to play a little. Very helpful. The book is great, but you will not pass the exam if this is the only thing you read.
  3. MCSE IIS 4 EXAM CRAM, ISBN 1576101940. This is a no-nonsense test-prep book. Lots of practice questions. Not as in-depth as the others, but well worth whatever I paid for it.

The Transcender exams are in beta, but get them. They contain errors and omissions, but still the best test prep tool available. The Transcender simulations are helpful, but they leave out some important information that cost me a lot of points. In particular, when the question instructs you to perform some action, like disable HTTP keep-alives from the default web site, are you supposed to surf around the rest of the property sheets and fix whatever else you find wrong? This was a big issue for me and I wish the Transcender guys would figure it out. Lord knows I paid enough for their product.

I also recommend PC AGE’s CBT for IIS 4.0. (973-882-5002) I heard about this CBT product from this site. Thanks to whoever recommended it…I can’t remember. Almost as good as the Transcenders, which is saying a lot.

I spent three weekends and a few weeknights studying from these materials. I felt well-prepared. I may have missed one or two of the multiple choice, probably the ODBC error questions. These are stupid and should not be part of the test. Let Microsoft know this if you have the patience to offer feedback after the test. I did. Until Microsoft snaps out of it, use article Q183060 from their technical support site.  Rote memorization is the only way.

The one thing I had trouble with were the simulations for the reason I mention above. One more thing about the simulations--a good strategy is to mark the sims and move on until you complete all the multiple choice, then go back and do all the sims at once.

I did not have any questions on Transaction Server.

Know well Index Server and components. Also SSL and security stuff.

Just passed the test score 800. The lowest one of the 6. Thank you very much for all the braindrump contributions. You have almost all the questions on the braindrump, now you need to study and find the right answer because lots of them are worng. The MMC are to be the easy one.Use the product, you can't pass it without using it.

1. Do the multiple questions first, mark the MMC questions and come back for them. Give them about 30 minutes.

2. Get the PCAge's testmaster for IIS4. It also answer some the braindrump posted questions. www.pcage.com

4. The MIME mapping is at metabase, not the registry.

know Index Server well - 4,5 questions

No Transaction Server on my test

I don't want to repost questions which already in the braindrump. Study hard from this site, install the product and play with it, use the PcAge's testmaster. You should be able to pass it.

Good luck to all and Best of the Braindrump

MCSE since 11/15/98

Well thanks for your help with IIS4.0, this was my second MS test. I sure was happy to find this site on the net. I would have never passed without this site. I really dont have much to add to the site, except the PCage test was right on the money. Worth the 69 dollars. I have use IIS4 since it was release and still had some trouble with the simulation questions.

Whew! Squeeked by with a 781 (727 req). 1 more to go! Thanks to all of

you who've taken the time to dump here. As mentioned before the sims are bullshit, and you can expect to miss 1/2 of them right off the bat. One sim asked to create a virtual directory but neglects to mention what to name it. Even after seeing all of the previous posts with low scores I really thought I was going to do really well :(

There appears to be to variations to the array question. 1 gives the answer ... on multiple drive arrayS, while 2 gives you ... on multiple driveS array. Remember, you only have 1 array, but if it's "driveS array", that's the right answer.  All of the other questions on there were on this dump, however, every other post gives different answers. You will see nothing on the tests that the answer will be "The Registry" (unless MS gets smart and rewords it). If I recall, there were some twisted questions that did lead you to answer the same way as dump submissions, so beware. My advice, go through the test and mark the MMC questions. After getting thru, start with question 1 and doublecheck (only changing if you are ABSOLUTELY sure you answered wrong). And do the sims in order until you're done (and DON'T review them). Be sure to make sure to click START on the properties of each as you go along if it's available (and it will be on most).

Wish I had more specific questions to dump, but after 4 tests in less than a month my brain is mush.

Internet Information Server 4.0

Took the test Friday and passed with an 836, not the best but gives me my MCSE and MCP + Internet.  The Simulations are not that bad, write down everything they ask you and know where to go and what to do before you start the Sim.  All are posted here so read the braindumps.  I never sat the class, don't use IIS 4 at work.  Only used braindumps and Transcender beta.  Trancender helps with Sims if you dont have Option pack loaded.  Some of the questions are the same but Microsoft gives you different answers than Transcender.  So don't FREAK out!!!  This test is very passable, not as impossible as some say.  If you go through the braindumps and can get a hold of that transcender you will PASS!!!

Make sure that you get the basics:  SQL error messages, Simulations, Subnetting.  These are gimmies so don't blow it by missing those.
